Why does the term Hispanic include Indios and mestizos.
It seems many Latin Americans with 75-100% European blood are confused on the concept of race and think that the Indios and mestizos are the same as them, that they are just “darker Hispanics”
I was always taught that a Hispanic Is someone who’s blood hailed from the Iberian peninsula. I got into an argument with some Hispanic nationalists who very clearly have identity issues. They claim both sides of their heritage and essentially use the term Hispanic to include anyone born in a spanish speaking country no matter what their race is unless they’re Haitian, they claim to be separate from whites (even the ones who are white which is surprisingly most of them) yet they claim they are not civic nationalists as they are “race realists” and support fascism and national socialism for “Hispanics”
I have never seen a more confused movement in my life.

They call themselves hispanos which means they are decendents from Spain living in former Spanish colonies in the America’s. They problem is that they include Indios and mestizos and just call them dark Hispanics
People in Mexico and South America have a different historical understanding of what race is.
In the US race tends to be essentialist, i.e you're black and your progeny will be black, due to a "blackness" that they have in essence, a concept way before population genetics was even a thing.
In Latin America, which had a dramatically more diverse population (and I'm not using diverse as "non-white", I mean it literally, there were hundreds of different pre-hispanic groups with their own interests and desires, and there were similarly multiple population groups with their own interests and desires after the Spaniards came and left) the approach towards race was integrationalist, division leads to rebellions, death, and murder, hence there were many attempts in many contries to produce homogenized races and cultures through nation building. This to an extent happened in the US, mostly to European immigrants, wheras to the south many countries applied it to indigenous populations as well as European immigrants.
The end result is that race in South America is tied to class in a different way than in the US.
You can be percived as "whiter" simply by becoming more rich, or as "browner" by being more poor.

They haven't been third world shitholes throughout all their history, but yes, the internal inestability brough about by having that many different groups made it harder to economically develop, still, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Brazil, Paraguay, all underwent periods of incredible economic prosperity at different points of the 20th Century (and some before) and the repercusions of that prosperity can still be felt today, for example, the USs economic interdependence with Mexico.

Uruguay is 88% White according to Wikipedia, and not just Spaniards and Portuguese also Northern Italians, French, Germans, etc. Spain has immigrants from all their colonies in Latin America, Africa and Asia. Uruguay gets little immigration and it's mostly White Argentinians Spaniards Italians and White Americans. Some White Brazilians too.

A mestizo however is not, due to the overwhelming Indio characteristics that you generally see in them. Dark skin, strawberry nose, short stature ect.
Whereas Castizos can easily pass as a Spaniard in Spain and sometimes even anglo and french depending on what type of European they are. They can also eradicate the Indio blood within one to two generations
