Super Mario Zig Forumsorld 2 - Testing Thread 4/5

Last Thread: Hi all Anons, once again. I wanted to thank you all for participating in Super Mario Zig Forumsorld 2. For those who didn't see nor know, I was the organizer for Super Mario Zig Forumsorld, a Super Mario World Collaboration hack with levels by your fellow Anons. This period lead its course for 31 threads, and now that period is over. As a result, this first testing thread will be created to start scanning over the levels, discussing other aspects of the project, and submitting updates to submitted WIPs.

The first thing to note - FULL LEVEL UPDATES ARE NOW OVER. As we are approaching the release, it is too costly to try and submit full level updates into the hack and test them and make sure nothing else breaks. This should not be a huge deal, as every level is complete now, but outside of the final bosses (which I will mention in the next post), everything else is done.

The Second thing is that I CAN NO LONGER ADJUST OR CHANGE ANY MUSIC. AddmusicK breaks on roms of 6MB or higher, so what we have to work with is what we have. I originally though the 6MB build I was given would work, but that was sadly not the case. All tracks needed are in, but nothing can be changed or replaced.

I will detail some more things below, but to give a bit of an overview: Super Mario Zig Forumsorld 2 contains 73 levels and 86 exits, making it almost double the size of the first hack, and larger than some VLDC and VIP hacks.

BOSS DISCUSSION

As you may remember, we were planning two final bosses for Zig Forums2. The first, Xaruin, is CURRENTLY BROKEN ON BSNES. I have tried to reach out to the user who made the boss, but I have gotten no response. The thing that is broken itself is the Fireball aiming, alongside missing an attack or two. I have the files, but nothing is commented and routines often are coded poorly or share names. If anyone wants to try to fix this and has ASM knowledge, let me know ASAP.

The plan for 5-FINAL (hereby called by it's official final name "The Rage") is to have 3AB's Zig Forums-tan as the final boss. Unlike with the first final boss though, everything about this boss is in the hands of you Anons. Things needed at the moment are:
> Boss Attacks
> Boss Music
> Boss Setup/Ending

One of the Anons in the threads offered to code it (the same user who made the Zig Forums1 final boss), but the actual planning for the boss I want to put in the hands of you Anons.

Now that the boss is being coded, the next major thing we need is BOSS GRAPHICS. If you think you're up for the challenge, let me know here, and I'll send you an outline of what graphics are needed. Thanks a bunch Anons!

Usually all the posts are pre-written (see the other threads). However I forgot to detail that the boss graphics are also needed, so that took a bit of time to write on the spot.

Sucks to hear about the Xaruin attack being busted. Hope it gets fixed or at least is able to be replaced with another attack, if worse comes to worse, just put in a READ ME saying "Use SNES9X"

Yeah that's the "worst case" thing but currently the boss still has some incomplete parts to begin with. I may have to push the release date back a week or two if this isn't sorted

What is the full list of boss issues?

Currently

I know you're asking for any ASM anons for help but you thought of maybe asking someone on SMWC for any help?

The code has every variable, comment, and string named "Nigger", I don't think I'd be able to post that on SMWC.

I remember an user mentioned wanting a changelog in the last thread about what was changed in the builds over the week. The main things were that the overworld was fully finished, and the last remaining level was added to the hack. All that remains now are the two bosses and asm for the postgame.

What are the plans for Bowsers Castle after you beat the boss? Is there going to be a door which lets you select each room (for clean up)

Postgame is essentially done, the asm for it is unlocking it. You need to beat all the star stages to unlock a path, so it's a patch that checks 5 events and does a 6th event when the first 5 are done

I was the user who offered to do the boss sprites for Zig Forums but my pixel art is pretty shitty, sorry guys.

I am instead doing a little game cover for the final thread tho. thinking about drawing each of the changed enemys and maybe Xatu and v-tan as the background shadows looming over everyone. Does anyone have a image of all the changed sprites?
