Babby's first JRPG

Are we still pretending this game is good?
>1/3 of it feels like a slog despite being a 20 hour game
>Empty world maps, you can travel across all continents in mere seconds
>Characters are just a fun design, shallow everything else
>Combat is mindless and you just win by spamming regular attacks (Even to the high DEF eyes, which you are supposed to kill with magic)
>Magic costs are enitrely nonexistant outside of the first 2 hours, mana items are plenty and you can spam it mindlessly for even easier combat
>Boss are entirely damage sponges with 1 boring gimmick
>Counter, literally just halve your hp, COUNT DOWN FROM 5 TO 0, hit me with 1 type of magic
>Final boss is a boss rush of the same shit mentioned before
>Goku marries bulma at the end

Here’s what happened
>1994-1997 - People say FF4 is the best RPG
>1998-2005 - FF6 is considered the best RPG
>2006-2014 - Contrarians hate FF6 now and say FF7 is the best RPG
>2015-Present - Contrarians stop pretending to like FF7 now and say Chrono Trigger is the best RPG

I mean, aside from contrarian memes
>Played for the first time this year
>Went without expectations
>Game is ok, but has glaring issues, decide to ignore them because it's an old rpg
>Finish it, and get some random endings so I can see if I missed anything
It was ok, but pretty boring,
>Decide to check online to see if anyone shares that opinion
>CHRONO TRIGGER IS THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME / THE JRPG THAT BEAT TIME

All JRPGs are babbys first

Inferior to FF6 and 7 but by no means a lackluster game

Don't care. Still my favorite game.

It's a great game. It may be overrated right now, but it's an incredibly ambitious undertaking and achievement for its time.

Based.

I'm not. Others might pretend it's the best game ever, but I'm saying it's only good (on account of the excellent artistry within).

you can beat the game 30 minutes in

You had to have played it at peak age. If you are a zoomer you will NEVER understand, don't embarrass yourself.

Tacit admission that the game hasn't held up over the years.

I'll respect that, I do have my fair share of bad games that I like

that’s right, OP, years of critical and commercial praise and legions of fans are all pretending. All it took was for an intellectual heavyweight to swoop in and yell, “I don’t like thing!!”.

Outstanding.

this is not a bad thing

How can it be the best JRPG ever made, let alone one of the best videogames ever if it didn't even age well?

This is exactly what I am talking about.
I played it a few hundred hours back in the 90s and never again, I don't care if a game "holds up" or whatever zoomer confabulation you think is important. That actual experience and how it made me feel is the true value of the game. The fact that you are trying to construct some other argument demonstrates to me that you will NEVER understand this.

>popular thing bad
Every single day

Might wanna loosen those nostalgia goggles, buddy. They're restricting blood flow to what's left of your brain.

Any defense against OP's argument or are you just gonna cower in the corner?

It's an entry-level game but that doesn't necessarily make it bad. In the same sense that Mario games aren't bad platformers despite being pretty easy and simple to pick up. Also you didn't mention the god tier soundtrack

If the game was bad back then, its bad now
And if its bad now, it was bad back then

>Contrarians
you are a brain damaged retard

I'll enjoy video games like a normal person instead of seething in dark corners of the internet without even play it

ogre battle was the best snes jrpg

Kill yourself op.

I loved it for years but I can’t play it anymore. The future and prehistoric times are just too boring after going through them a million times, just to get to kino antiquity.

People who don't get Chrono Trigger are often women or trannies. Its a guy thing.

Nostalgia is the only thing that makes videogames games worth playing, the zoomers who are obsessed with cataloging and ranking and contrasting retro games that they never truly experienced are the ones who are looking at videogames entirely the wrong way.

Look at this moron who types out
>How can it be the best JRPG ever made, let alone one of the best videogames ever
what a stunted and warped way to discuss anything.

Ah, a fellow cultured gentleman.

All elections of "best of something"are based in innovation it brought at the time and are context based. Nowadays, Chrono Trigger mechanics are outdated, but were revolutionary back then. Same thing with the original final fantasy or Ocarina of Time. In 20 years, Dark souls is going to be considered mediocre.

>still crying about zoomers MUH NOSTALGIA THO

Bitch, I played the game when it came out. Every complaint the OP raised is valid. Don't act like it's a masterpiece just because you have warm and fuzzy childhood memories associated with it.

I guess no videogame is worth playing for the first time because there's 0 nostalgia for it

I've never met someone who disliked Chrono Trigger that had good taste in games. It can't be a coincidence

Well you can't meet people inside your basement dude

chrono trigger was never all that revolutionary. It was more of a case of having few flaws while having generally above average quality than being genuinely exceptional or the best at something

based taste

Ummm....epic department?

>shitting on chrono trigger
lmao the state of this board, what's next, twitch threads?

N-NO Zig Forums IS SUPPOSED TO BE MY HAPPY PLACE, DON'T DISS MY GAMES

This game has the best pacing of any jrpg

And settings. It's refreshing not having the same generic desert, snow, and grassy field zones that every other rpg uses.

Do anyone here enjoy video games at all? Or at least play them?
