some consoles would also freeze, start beeping and wouldn't turn off. some had dead pixels which was justified with "up to 5 dead pixels is acceptable". i also recall the controllers being bad and would lose connection easily

they didn't, there was a lawsuit when people found out they purposely used shit caps and left a bug in the dvd controller.
in theory it'd shit itself if you used burned dvds, because it had to work twice as hard. but the bug and the caps were so bad it affected genuine discs as well.
