I just learned that the ruling party in Latvia is a 'green-conservative' party, which combines environmentalism with right-wing thought, which is the natural combination - the current western marriage between environmentalism and the left wing is unnatural and contrived for the sake of drumming up more support among lemmings for the left, and is doomed to fail as the left is inherently anti-nature.
Can anyone who may be living in Latvia give any details on this? Are the politicians involved unpozzed, or not really? I am interested in forming a similar party in America within the next decade to perhaps wrest some control over the environmentalist narrative away from the left.

The main party in power is liberal conservative which is most definitely not associated with the liberalism you must be thinking of. It seems similar to the Australian Liberals (liberal conservative) and the Nationals (farmers) coalition in Australia except the Australian version is far less green. Definitely not lefties and they seem to have struck a good balance for their smaller farmers vs conglomerates.

The problem with politicians in Latvia is that many are relics of the Soviet Union bureaucracy (either ethnic russians or the old bootlicks of KGB), meaning that they operate under the old rules of how things are run and gov budgets are split, even if they're putting up a show of being whoever the fuck they say, and this explains their eagerness to jump at whatever EU regulation comes out, purely out of old habit, so long that the EU gibs flow freely. The other Baltic countries don't have such a severe problem due to the much lower percentage of ethnic russians in their country and their government institutions.

The "union of greens and farmers" - notwithstanding its very name which is a fucking oxymoron - is the go-to congregation for most of the old comparty and KGB stooges. Most of the oldfags in that party were deputies under the USSR. It's the go-to party for plutocratic opportunists. They have no hard ideological positions, they form coalitions with whoever gets enough votes. They control most of the municipal governments in quasi-dynastic cliques and pretty much openly accept bribes for public works' contracts.
Their "ideology" is just a bunch of propaganda shit and ripped straight from the Farmers' Union party that ruled Latvia for most of the 1920s and formed the basis of Kārlis Ulmanis' fascist government in 1934-1939. They got his great nephew to serve as president in the 90s for publicity - but there is 0 actual continuity in the party since most of our intelligentsia got shot or deported in 1941 and 1949, while everybody else of any social standing fled in 1944 together with the retreating Wehrmacht (including my 3 of my grandma's brothers serving in the Waffen SS).

And to elaborate for western posters: Latvians, Lithuanians and Estonians are NOT Russian, and are NOT Slavic. We were distinct from the east Slavs long before Russia was even a thing. LANGUAGE The Estonians are basically just Finns stuck on the wrong side of a sea. They don't even speak an Indo-European language. Balts - Lithuanians and Latvians - speak Baltic languages. These descend from proto-Balto-Slavic, but were already a seperate family around 2500-2000 years ago, before the Slavs even diverged into different peoples. There used to be three major groups - Letts, Lithuanians and Prussians - but the Prussians got mixed with Germanans and Germanized and became, well, Prussians. Letts and Estonians got converted and/or conquered by the German crusading orders too, but never got assimilated due to the larger geographic distances involved. This became the place known as Livonia. Neither nation was a single people at the time, but rather a collection of several smaller states and tribes each. Over the next several centuries we got culturally Germanized to a very large extent. The native elites merged with and assimilated into the Baltic-German aristocracy (which was, admittedly, still mostly German). With the exception of one Latvian province, all the Livonians became Lutheran during the reformation and stayed that way until the communist revolution. There were successive periods of Polish, Swedish and Russian dominance but Livonia remained mostly under the control of German landowners and German-local-kike cities until the 20th century. By this time the Estonians and Latvians had emerged as distinct nations, and after WW1 both were easily able to defeat both remnants of German-White Russian forces and the Red Army in their territories to establish relatively prosperous nation states. Which, if you look at most of world history, is no mean feat for peoples completely inexperienced in governing themselves.
The Lithuanians are a slightly different story. Due to the lack of easy access to their heartlands from the sea, they were much better situated to hold off crusader incursions. The Lithuanians united a whole bunch of more southerly East Baltic tribes (the ones they didn't nab became the Latvians) under Mindaugas, and successfully kicked the shit out of the Germans repeatedly. They started expanding eastwards, and after the Mongols had stopped being gods of war, they carved out a massive empire in Eastern Europe by subjugating most of the original Kievan Rus territory (ironic, isn't it?). To this day, the Rus peoples that got conquered by the Lithuanians and subsequently ruled by Lithuania and Poland respectively are known as Belarussians and Ukranians. The Lithuanians remained pagans until pretty much 1400, when they finally entered a personal union with the kingdom of Poland (which was ruled by a Lithuanian dynasty, the Jagiellions. Poland was both smaller and ruled by Lithuanians).
The first time the Baltics came under Russian suzerainity was after the Great Northern War (1720s) for Livonia and after the partitions of Poland (late 1700s) for Lithuania. That's under 200 years of Russian rule, while most of the German and Lithuanian local elites retained most of their influence.
TL;DR: the Baltics are as Russian as England is German, or Italy is French.
