The upper classes of the roman empire stopped breeding in the same manner but the majority of the population did not. Modernity however produces so much surplus due to the effect of machine labor that even the lowest of the low can engage in this hedonism if the state supports them.
In the modernity society we see a distinction between the non-working classes(liberal whites, kikes, and shitskins) who essentially fake their labor in beaurcratic position or other "professions" which don't produce material products or just plain live off of the public dole. This dole is supported by the incredibly productive and efficient working classes(both labor and professional) composed almost exclusively of what we'd call "rightist" whites. Whether a farmer or a geologist these people produce material products in vast excess while still habitually engaging in adaptive behaviors while even saracens cannot maintain their birthrates.
This would be a self correcting problem if they couldn't import millions of shitskins as the current crop would be outbred by the rightist whites given sufficient time. That said there is no reason to wait for that in America we have 3 million militia members who are white nationalist who have been waiting for an opportunity to neck every shitskin they can find. In Europe you'd more likely see a total economic shutdown as the rebelious element leverages the productive classes to no longer produce and the liberals/shitskins cannot replace that labor themselves.
