First Assassination Markets Appear on Prediction Platform Augur

Everyone knew that it was inevitable that assassination markets would quickly pop up on decentralized prediction market platform Augur, but that doesn’t make the fact that users are now betting on whether U.S. President Donald Trump will be assassinated by the end of the year any less jarring.

Yet this market exists, and, though not the most popular bet on Augur, more than 50 shares have been traded on it as of the time of writing. Similar markets, moreover, exist for a number of other public figures, allowing users to gamble on whether 96-year-old actress Betty White and U.S. Senator John McCain — who has been diagnosed with brain cancer — will survive until Jan. 1, 2019.

Some decentralized application (dApp) browsers are filtering out these markets from the user interface, hiding them from bettors. >However, there’s no way to remove them from the network, making them available through any overlay that does not engage in front-end censorship.

The core issue stems from the fact that, in addition to the pure revulsion that these markets should engender in any decent human being, >they also create a financial incentive for someone to place a large bet that a public figure will be assassinated and then murder that person for profit. Consequently, the mere presence of these markets makes it more likely that these events will occur, however slim that increase may be.

In any case, at this point, the debate is largely moot. Augur is an open-source project, so even if the developers did find a way to block these markets, it’s likely that a splinter group would fork the platform and remove whatever restrictions they had put in place.

Looks like racewar just became profitable.

Is this an allegory for women stealing seed?

So expanding on that thought, people are just going to assume the person making the market is going to do it when it involves some kind of event they could personally cause, so the odds are going to all out of whack and people wont want to buy shares in them not being killed. This could also be a form of "legal death threat" as someone could simply start a market and that would trigger a sequence where the person is likely warned by intelligence agencies that they are being targeted.

Isnt that hilarious.

BTW if it wasnt clear augur is a cryptocurrency, or at least REP is and the way it works is that buyers and sellers buy shares in markets that predict outcomes and they use the data in a search engine that predicts the future, so you can ask the search engine "Will X happen?" and it will tell you in advance based off what people are betting. You can buy a share and then sell it later on, and I believe the way it works is if your outcome is successful you get the amount of money or something. Im not exactly sure, it allows you to bet on prediction markets for literally anything you want as long as someone else is willing to fill the other half of the transaction. Some betting websites already put their own options out but it was only a very limited selection, you could already bet on if Trump would last more than 2 years etc at the start of his term on Bodog for example.

fascinating user

How does bookmaking work on the system? ie who is the judge of outcomes?

I don't see Trump committing a crime for the next 7 years. I don't see him getting bumped either due to how much threat their are just from the weaponized narcissists of the left. I do see health problems though, needs to slim down as he gets older. Maybe cut down to 1 scoop and six diet cokes a day.

What?

But it's a prediction market, so the most likely ones to be assassinated won't have large payouts. Doesn't work all that well as an assassination market, for that it needs to be more like a pot that goes to the assassin. Good luck with that.

Another way to think of it is anime becoming real.
Train hard and become a hitman capable of protecting the president by killing his enemies.

What about the counter assassin though?

Fine, he's got an extra space after the period, like this. See? There's an extra period. It's a sign that the sentences have been automatically selected, and are automatically being entered, or are being selected from a menu, but the extra spaces haven't been trimmed.

I have Augur and the market is for betting in future events and not in assassination, but you could bet on the assassination of someone.

The faggot that released this analytics bot deserves to die in a (((car accident)))

Except only one sentence has a extra space after the period. If they all did, then sure, something is up. But only one of them did, meaning he most likely backspaced because he started the sentence one way and decided to change it to the current form and didn't realize he didn't delete the space.
Regardless, you are a faggot and trying to derail the thread by (1)ing people in a new thread without giving them time, or reason, to reply or add to any other comments.

Exactly. You would need a pretty foolproof AI to determine whether a real life event has happened.

I wonder if there are any bets against the entire white race on there yet. I am sure kikes would be betting top sheckle for that one, even long term outcomes.

works like this:
Buyers bet against assassination. Assassin bets for, does job, wins.
Even better if not visible on main net, so that randoms can't grab share of payment

Validators do(they're actual people) and in exchange receive REP. Thing that I don't see an answer to is what keeps them from colluding and lying.

I've looked at Augur a bit, most bet propositions that are made end up with no takers.

or we need to report it and get the global mods to ban it

They probably know, took a while to stop the bui spam though.

Interesting, thanks. So what's the mechanism of search engine checking? Like how does it do it? Obviously, there must be a strategy to make sure it's fair…

It would have to be payment in the same currency as the platform, redeemable in the future. Any corruption in the validation process would devalue the currency and hence the validators (as a group) would have an incentive to vote correctly. It is a group consensus.

It is, they're directly sent REP, which is the token that augur uses.
Fair point though it still leaves an opening for a one off exit scam.

This is why the coins must be redeemable only in the future. It makes it harder to exit scam. Many mined cryptos also do not allow the newly mined coins to be used until a while after they are mined.

REP isn't a real crypto, its an ERC20 token.

Assassination markets are a wonderful thing. Augur is not perfect but still a good first step. As always, the link between real life and blockchain is the weak part but that could be solved with a little more centralization. A "spymaster" model of sorts.

this timeline sure feels like it, i have thought that for several years now

So it's on Ethereum?

Nobody has explained, plainly, how markets are settled.

For example, on PredictIt, they have employees who follow certain rules and declare the winner.

Are you retarded?

You seeeeem

(((triggered)))

Not on a serious site as it creates moral hazard.

Slowpoke is slooooooow

There was already an assassination market on SilkRoad before it was shut down, that was ten years ago.

I fucking love free market. Statist BTFO

Did not know this existed. Can I make a profit here? Thanks for post user.

A Dead pool you mean. I wish I could bet on this. I have a few names I think of leftists I think are going to bite it.

From my limited understanding its exploitable, people "report" the results afterwards, although Im not sure if 90% of the people bet someone dies and then they report that he died when hes still alive, if theres a failsafe to prevent that.

Yea, the whole point is to make profits off the bets and then they also use the information in a search engine, although I dont know if that engine is even up yet. The Augur network just launched like 2 weeks ago, brand new stuff.

In the normal world there are courts to resolve contract disputes.

Shit you mean we all could have been making brouzouf off the Trump Curse and betting against the enemies of the God Emperor? FUCK.

This shit happened to me with BTC also.

i hadn't heard of Augur until now.

checking it out, it is open source and can be downloaded here:

while i can already see the Boomer Patriotard QLARP'ers going apoplectic about the idea of Shitlib ntifa anarchist assassins
using Augur to put out a hit on Trump, i believe this could backfire against the Bolsheviks big time.

it has been unquestionably established that the arc of the history of the Internet bends toward a strong Right Wing bias.

like Rule 34 for porn, there is a Rule 1488: whatever narrow sub-micro interest group exists on the Internet, there will be a Nazi version of it,
and the Nazis will be the most active, the most vocal, the most intelligent and the most unrelenting groups who hijack any online space,
and drown out all other discussion by the sheer power of volume, as well as cast an image of being bigger, more popular and more influential
simply because they dominate the conversation.

so too for Assassination Markets running on decentralized Blockchains.

what the "Resistance" Shitlibs infected with Trump Derangement Syndrome think they're getting: "if only enough of us Crooked Hillary voters donate a few dollars worth of Ether, we can fund a multi million dollar reward pot for some new Gavrilo Princep hero to take the initiative and then he's done for sure now, take that Drumpf"

what the Bolshevik traitors actually get: the Nazi's put out fully funded hits on every Reptilian DC Swamp Thing and every 7FG Shadow Govt bureaucrat and every Deep State lackey.

Lurk 2 years before posting.

by the way, assassination is one of the worst tactics. even history speaks to this.

there were 89 Roman Emperors, and 35 of them were assassinated.

while the temporal gains of just whacking your enemy are tempting, and you think
you win and you immediately get what you want, the natural forces of entropy have
a way of unravelling whatever edge you think you gained, and restoring equilibrium
in some indirect way which you could never have predicted, or even causing a role reversal
resulting in the exact opposite outcome to what you intended.

much better than assassination is to destroy the man, shame him, frame him, make
everyone he loves hate him, demoralize him by taking away whatever he believes he
is fighting for, and then let the man do the rest to finish himself.
