You have to look at the longer cycles user. Roughly 13,000-14,000 years are the points of extreme in the cycle, which corresponds with cataclysmic events, as well as the long count cycles of all ancient civilizations touched by our ancestors, even the Mayan and the Vedic texts match up with this.
I'm not denying the possibility or even probability of this happening. These events can both occur as part of the same event. The average temperatures on the planet in many places (such as most of Europe and the east coast of north america) are dictated by air and water currents such as the Jet Stream. If there is a rapid change in overall temperature of the earth, these currents will be drastically effected or some could even outright stop flowing. One of the most important factors in this, is the way that cold water flows down the atlantic from the north, at depth, while warm waters flow north while sitting on top of the cold waters. If there are major shifts in any direction with this flow, or likewise with the jet stream, it would break that system and lead to an ice age in Europe and other parts of the northern hemisphere…. and probably a fuckload of other complications as well.
