People want to "have fun", but don't want to "clean up the after party". In many cultures the coming of a child is a new beginning in everyone lifes. To deny this "new beginning" is to deny the development of a mature personality, because the parents are not living just for themselfs, but to another being.

I'm a bit of a hypocrite as I've assisted on abortions in medical school but in the cases I saw I feel it was justified. 11 of the 20 were confirmed genetic/serious physical defects, one was a woman on valproate, the rest were in active alcoholics/drug addicts. My brother has serious birth defects and while I love him, I realize that his care needs stopped my parents from having more than two kids despite initially wanting 4 or 5.
