I made this board almost five years ago. At the time I knew very little about communism or anarchism, and I was a vague leftist. My main goal in running the board was to create a popular place for any kind of leftist discussion. The fresh OC, unique memes, shitposts, arguments, and perspectives were really fun and often educational, and I thank users here for spamming the "read a book" memes, which actually did make me (and many others on the board, I imagine) read a lot of books. During this early period, I wholeheartedly contributed to the OC and culture of the board like everyone else, and it's a minor point of pride for me that people still repost OC I made daily.
There were downsides to the naive/hands-off moderation approach, such as the massive promotion and shilling of one big US military base in Syria, Bernie, Nazbols, and similar trash that took place. As I read books and educated myself, I realized what a mess I had created. Maybe the existence of a board like /leftypol/ was inevitable on Zig Forums, or things could have turned out differently with people going to /marx/ or /anarcho/ instead. In any case, I tried to discourage and get rid of the worst posters, which turned into a protracted fight and even a board split, with a lot of people complaining. /leftypol/ still has ups and downs in spite of general improvements, but I think the abysmal quality of /leftpol/ shows it was the right choice. Some posters have accused me of never visiting the board, only logging on to ban people. I still post here daily. Some of my favorite threads to post in have been the DOW thread, Cockshott generals, DPRK general, "questions that don't deserve their own thread," and others. A lot of people here don't share the view that /leftypol/ actually could be harmful if people were allowed to post imperialist propaganda here, either because they think /leftypol/ is just too small (it never has been, as there are a lot of lurkers on top of the 3-day IP count), or people aren't impressionable to what's posted on imageboards or the internet (with the way things are going in politics in general, I don't know how you could seriously believe this). I hope that there will be a smooth transition when I resign, but in the end it will be out of my hands.

One of the most interesting quirks of /leftypol/ is that you could talk foreign policy with them, up to a point. They accepted how criminal Israel was, but they saw it as a client state of the United States, merely doing American bidding. Stuff like Mearsheimer and Walt were too extreme for them, they defaulted to the Chomsky narrative.
Now that they've fallen it's just cultural marxism left, there's no original strain of marxism I can find it is all regressive stack bs.
I think where Zig Forums and /leftypol/ start to differ on their foreign policy views is in regards to the 'why' they believe the things they do. /leftypol/ adopts the anti-war position due to their "evil capitalist USA bombing brown people" and "muh imperialism" lines. Most Zig Forums users view it from a nationalist standpoint: I (and assume most people here) am against these wars because they do not serve the interest of the people, but instead of a small Judaeo-globalist elite which uses Americans as cannon-fodder abroad. I don't even necessarily have an opposition to war or conquering other countries for resources, it's the fact that Americans will never see the fruits of these conquests and that these are not truly necessary wars that makes me be against them

According to leftist philosophers, the primary defining trait of fascism is that it holds to the idea of absolute truth. It's the opposite of relativism. You can read Umberto Eco's paper on Ur Fascism to learn about that. He even makes the claiin in that paper that liberalism is by its essence in an eternal war against fascism which is an admission that liberalism is in an eternal war against thetruth. That's why we perpetually see leftists going against reality, fighting it. Their aim is to deconstruct everything. Because, truth to them is a primordial evil.
The average leftist sees it like this: without absolute truth, things can't be right or wrong. And without that kind of ethics, Nazi ideas can't be right because "right" is absolute. If everything becomes relative, then there will be no conflict.
This also means that leftists don't really care about anything. Nothing really has value, nor is there good or bad. And that makes them very dangerous, very untrustworthy people.

I think so. /leftypol/ was in my experience more open to opposing viewpoints than Zig Forums was after the 2nd exodus. Many of them welcomed intelligent debate, whereas Zig Forums tends to jump a little too much on people I partly blame the imkampfy influence and the belief that any contrary view is some kind of shill or paid agent But at least here, the moderation is now okay, whereas /leftypol/ eventually became pretty ban-happy.
