As a Canadian I know a couple guys that have run afoul of US immigration. One guy spent several months wearing an orange jump suit and eating off plastic trays in a cinderblock holding center after the police tackled him by the side of the road he was jogging on one morning. The other guy tried crossing the border high up in the Rockies with a backpack full of weed and got arrested immediately and is now serving a 3 year sentence.
