I think everyone assumes it's "that other guy" who hasn't read anything and knows nothing when it's more likely a function of ignorance in different people about different topics. My experience is mainly with philosophy (mostly the Greeks, Nietzsche and Hegel), but I know little about the history of the USSR beyond broad strokes.
