Is becoming a hikkomori (or a recluse) because of the alienation brought on by neoliberal capitalism? youtube.com/watch?v=wE1UIK85E3E
I feel like in a communist society where workers own the means of production and you can actually have a job worth a damn young people locking themselves in their rooms and feeling crippling anxiety and depression 24/7 would be non-existant.
part mental illness, part shitty job market, unfriendly society, etc.
William Powell
Short answer : yes Long answer : Definitive yes Big brain answer : hell the fuck yes
It's basically escapism taken to the fucking extreme
Wyatt Johnson
Yep.
Jaxon Parker
Also, that documentary hit extremely close to home, being a former NEET.
Luke Morales
Also former NEET, what's scary is that I easily slip back into my NEET habits if I don't have something like school or work to take up enough of my time. Right now I only work a few days a week and I'm on summer break, so I've become socially isolated again, have a bad sleep schedule, and so on. I was a full NEET for only a couple years, but when I went to community college it was nearly the same. It's only university where people are really sociable, and where employers start taking you seriously.
Ryder Young
Everything they describe sounds incredibly alienating.
Landon Stewart
Just finished the documentary. I wish I had a friend like that nice old man. I never leave my room.
David Green
fancy that, I have a shit sleep schedule right now too I'm probably younger than you though, I'm trying to currently enroll in community college but financial aid is a nightmare for me I hope I can eventually go to university
Elijah Myers
The thing is in modern post industrial techno capitalism there is very little reason not to be one. In meat space we're constantly being treated like shit by our peers, forced to work slave away doing shitty jobs even after we bust our asses for fancy degrees, and on top of that we aren't getting any of the gibsmedats. The catch 22 is "escaping" usually puts one in the same situation, since online we're constantly getting banned all the time and suffering the same abuse at the hands of admins/moderators. Ergo there is no reason not to be a misanthropic nihilist, the only thing that keeps me going is the intense hatred I have for everything
NEETs refuse to work for illegitimate reasons, they would be sent to the gulags to work for free.
Jeremiah Wilson
haha fuck yourself
Mason Ross
word. t maladjusted introvert
Liam Torres
non-participatory attitude towards capitalism is illegitimate? that's why you're not the one who'll be doing communism, sweetie
why not marry the misanthropic attitude with simultaneous love brimming for humanity? why restrict yourself to one particular thing that puts label on you and limits your capabilities as a human being?
spook, see
Samuel Lewis
Lad, the point of Communism is to abolish Capitalism and all it's trappings, which happens to include Class Society and the divisions contained therein. Labour is the only thing that creates value, but it doesn't make work inherently valuable, that is Protestant Ideology. We want to emancipate people from being bound as value generating machines; part of the reason that NEETs exist as a phenomenon is because that very condition is so alienating to humans as a species. There absolutely will be work to be done and NEETs will have to do it but why do I sense such a punitive tone in your post? Do you think NEETs having found momentary escape from daily hell that is Capital are somehow infringing upon you because you don't share the same fate? Under Capitalism there always has to be a proportion of the Labour pool constantly unemployed at all times yet you begrudge these individuals for a situation that isn't wholly in their control? Defining NEETs reasons not to work as "illegitimate" not only hints at what is essentially ressentiment but also ascribes way more agency to an individual than they actually have under Capitalism, and is dangerously close to the "Bootstraps" ideology. GULAGs were more progressive than almost every other penal system in the history of civilization and yet you want to use them as a stick to beat people with. If anything you're right, NEETs will go to GULAG but there they will be given the tools to re-enter society as fulfilled humans who can participate in the social good to the betterment of their communities and those around them. I don't think you know what the fuck you're talking about and just want to be a little commissar molding society into your personal vision marred by bitterness.
Austin Hughes
Misusing terms like reification won't make your ideas seem any less stupid. Work is literally what makes us human.
Zachary Richardson
Those japs aren't economic rebels, they have social anxiety and addiction to games/anime. Look at how they live…they need to clean their rooms and wash their penises.
Fancy words for people using autismbux to consume and participate in capitalism. Purposely being unemployed and begging for handouts is a waste of time/life, whether you're in feudalism, capitalism, socialism, or a mixed economy. Be honest.
Economics won't resolve your nihilism, misanthropy and entitled narcissism. Your parents should've put you to work early and beat some sense into you. Not being mean. Just honest.
No we are Human because our DNA Determines so anything else is spook

No seriously mate I'm waiting for a repudiation since you're apparently so fucking smart you must have more than just "haha ur dumb" as a response right? Genuinely want to learn something here
Henry Cox
Work the is the basis of our social existance. This is Marxism 101. Why do you think basis > superstructure?
Samuel Bailey
Work & Labour aren't the same thing though
Carter Mitchell
except I'm not planning to legitimately earn a single smallest unit of currency under capitalism even if my life depended on it, am I fucking stupid/idealistic? maybe, but the truth is that if majority started doing the same, the whole thing would just crumble making it a revolutionary act and I won't any bourgeois scum to force me into actual labor
Julian Kelly
If the majority started doing the same nobody would pay your neetbucks on the offchance that you're not just some petit-bourg kid living off his parents.
Zachary Anderson
most of these people suffer from some sort of severe social development issue or maladaptation, are unable to integrate themselves into an economy that grinds down people, integrating them into what's basically a family business that doesn't give them any power whatsoever, even in unions, and invest themselves on hobbies other than typical neckbeard shit. sure, the NEET fetishization in imageboards is irritating, but these people do have genuine issues with material origins. have a book
purposefully excluding yourself from society is barely revolutionary at all (probably the most lifestylist lifestylism gets tbh), your own subsistence depends on others' work and to stop them from selling their labour power you will need to integrate yourself into society and organize an actual strike, and you can't strike if you don't work
Jack Edwards
well, did it exist before neoliberal Capitalism? I think the answer is pretty obvious
Leo Richardson
Hikkikomori/NEETs don't exclude themselves from capitalism, they use autismbux/parental money/bitcoin to gleefully consume. Look at /r9k/ or any other NEET congregation, they are hives of rabid consumerism and conman mentality like nowhere else. NEETs are textbook lumpens.
Now we know that lumpens have revolutionary potential and of course they are a result of material conditions but to pretend their lifestyles are a revolutionary act is to thoroughly misunderstand…everything, really.
These attempts to make Zig Forums a gamers right association instead of a marxist club using vague leftist rhetorics are getting old.
Actually yes. It did. Not as widespread but you should read Oblomov.
I think we need to question everything, especially the people idolozied on respective sides. Lumpens DO have revolutionary potential, put a gun in their hands and a copy of [REVOLUTIONARY TEXT] and send them forward.
Jason Cooper
Japanese culture has severe social expectations. Just stepping outside your door is to enact in complex social rituals. If you get out of focus for just an instant, you'll be viewed as rude and your reputation suffers.
From a young age, they are given an extreme amount of school pressure. Hours worth of school work during and after school hours. Pressure for good grades is a constant threat on their young minds. And it never ends, the work load just piles up until they graduate college and forced into jobs they hate and having to travel on a hectic train service in which everyones squished like sardines. If you have any degree of social anxiety, depression, etc, you are in for a hell of a rollercoaster which it already was even if you were perfectly mentally healthy.
Its no wonder that people want to escape that hell, and if they can get a free ride than good on them. Porky gets richer and richer while we worry about people living in a tiny space barely enough to live on. And even if they worked, would gain the same amount from their labour.
John Gomez
That's not what revolutionary potential is about. You can hypothetically convert anyone. The question is whether their position in the production process naturally leads them to overthrow that mode of production.
Austin Powell
This. A particularly bad case of a typically east asian high pressure, highly collectivist society and rabid liberal capitalism made for a truly dreadful mix. No wonder people flat out refuse to participate in this hellscape of a social life and their suicide rates are through the roof.
Juan Clark
the average neet is more revolutionary and disruptive than the average anarkiddie, I can tell you that much at least
Noah Roberts
Which is pound for pound false obviously.
Nathaniel Young
how do you mean? anarkiddies contribute to the economies with whatever money they make moving drugs and the like. NEETs engage in pure parasitism
anarkiddies just recently renovated a warehouse in my city to use as a "collective base". capitalistd love anarkiddies
Julian Clark
Nazifags, everyone. Let me guess: you're butthurt they didn't invite you? But that's ok, you can just move into your collective nazifag base…oh wait, you don't have one. And they're also illegal where you live, huh? Lol.
go renovate more real estate so schlomo Shekelstein can rent it out to at at a profit while displaying PoC from the neighborhood thanks to gentrification
you're so stupid it hurts. go do more drugs.
Nicholas Martinez
I like how you think I have never held a job before when it should be fairly obvious I speaking from experience. Yes I have wageslaved around, tried to deal with people on a daily basis before, and tried to attend Uni so thats why I know its all bullshit.
by stating this you're sort of supporting the idea that Nazis are more revolutionary than anarchists since it suggests that the state cracks down more on his activity than yours.
Make a wild guess subhuman. Definitely has nothing to do with the destruction of traditional Japanese society and it's replacement with American globohomo liberalism.
You cannot engage in parasitism in capitalism, unemployment and welfare dependence are accounted for and even welcome to a certain extent. NEETs participate in the economy just like anyone by buying anime figures and dragon dildos with autismbux or their parents' money.
Jonathan Moore
And you are here gloating over the murder of the person who could have prevented the spread of neoliberal cancer in Japan. Rightcucks everyone
Ayden Hughes

Leo Smith
I'm sure Japan would have been saved by the eternal science of Marxism-Leninism. Maoist China is just the perfect example to follow.
Lincoln Myers
Here you are complaining of homosexuality, yet you post a picture of a prominent one. Top lel, how ironic.
Thomas Reed
kill yourself
Julian Lewis
China is rising while Japan is dying. Case closed, fuckboi
Hudson Scott
Not sure why you seem to have impression that the NEETs are more rabid consumers than anyone else. If you look at the pics above its mostly just trash, those people don't have a lot of nice shit. A lot of people who spend a ton of money on figures actually have decent paying jobs to support their hobby. No way I could I afford all that shit. Really most of money goes to maintaining my pc(I only upgrade when necessary such as replacing broken parts), maintaining my instruments/other musical equipment since I play death/black/thrash/doom metal, food since I am vegan and my family is not(I eat pretty modestly mind you) etc. Yeah I play a lot of vidya and watch a lot of anime but you're an idiot if you think most NEETs actually pay for that shit, so I don't see how I am living a especially consumerist if I am pirating everything. Honestly you shouldn't be on this board or Zig Forums if you actually pay for anime/vidya or any software for that matter. Honestly if I had the extra cash from a cushy job I would collect classic metal releases on vinyl as opposed to figures or dragon dildos since that what I am most passionate about.
31 year old Former NEET and Hikikomori of 8 years here.
I think getting rid of capitalism would help, but it wouldn't really change anything for us. My problem is no one talked to me during school and university, and now that I'm working a relatively social job to force myself to interact more, I feel like I'm becoming less and less able to relate to others. And as always, nobody talks to me unless they have to.
Andrew Perez
What about living in a commune? Collective life will help, you don't ret have to fake your smile, or faking a social life, like in a capitalism enterprise, you might live a life more like in a military service.
Mason Gomez
>anyone with mental illness can't be independent if we for get about capitalism for a sec
This isn't a fucking contest about who can be the most oppressed/who's considered 'the most revolutionary' Take your oppression olympics and go the fuck back to >>>/tumblr/ Shoot yourself.
yes, totally, more NEETbux will fix mental health and people neurologically unfit for work
Jayden Richardson
GEE ITS ALMOST AS PEOPLE NEED WORK TO LIVE A FULLFILLING LIFE
Henry Edwards
Gee, it's almost as if people need humanizing work that will share some of the wealth that they helped to generate instead of that surplus wealth being stolen by faceless people. It's almost as though the daily grind is severely mentally unhealthy. And that this lack of humanizing work is the main reason for the extraordinary rise of mental illness in capitalistic nations.
Adam Nelson
I'm a NEET and I go every day through the streets to collect deposit bottles. I do it because I have nothing else to do, the money is actually secondary.
Jack Torres
You might want to work on your reading comprehension.
Dylan King
No, people need social interaction and community to live a fulfilling life. Work in a capitalist society is a shitty substitute.
Carter Cruz
people need purpose and need to be productive in order to feel fulfilled. whether you call if work or labour is irrelevant - the idea is the same.
You're alright, metal-stalineet. I guess I wish you didn't just hate everything, but I think you're probably a decent dude all things considered even if you hate yourself, like I once did.
Tyler Thomas
This is sick actually, thanks for the find
I don't really hate myself all that much, I am just kind of grumpy a lot of the time.
don't you guys miss that an actual maybe best thrash album of all times while released post-soviet union was created by a band that existed since 1988 youtube.com/watch?v=vq7tBywD-8s
Connor Fisher
Oh yeah, this is in my backlog, been meaning to listen to it for awhile
Joshua Sanchez
There is nothing wrong with that. Actually we should promote it because of accelaratism.
