Worked at SpaceX for three years, quit to make more money. Engineer. It was a great experience to be honest. That being said, It's just a rocket company that is more efficient that existing big aerospace, which moves at a glacial pace. When your competition is a bunch of turtles, you can win by being faster…than a turtle.
The Mars colonization thing is not going to happen, at least not by SpaceX/Elon. Most of the staff at SpaceX just sort of puts up with it and rolls their eyes. There are a few kool aid drinkers but yeah, it's not going to happen.
The whole space travel and mars colonizing-thing is nothing else more than pure waste of money.
