He is a philosophical idealist. Some of his videos start well, but then he starts talking about exploitation or some other social phenomenon and he's just wrong. He also believes that postmodernists make sense, and last time he talked about it he had read very little Marx (his recent video on white voice is a slow descent into pomo garbage). I don't remember if he thinks idpol is legitimate but he constantly talks about the "cultivation of identity" so I'd say no for now.
I guess his videos could bring socdems to the other side but they are almost devoid of leftist theory or interpretations.

I imagine this can be unexpected to those who click on a video by a guy named 'Cuck Philosophy' about equality and Marxism expecting some kind of 'JORDAN SHAPIROSON lays down a TRUTH BOMB' on only to get what is essentially Lenin's 'A Liberal Professor on Equality'. It's not much, but provides a different take from the endless sea of demagogues on Youtube.

He's a million times better than the other guy yeah, and his serious videos are great, I didn't actually consider that he could theoretically attract radlibs only to give them a quick rundown on actual marxist philosophy, that's a nice side effect, although only a couple of his videos do this iirc, most of them are the cultural analyses or polemics against right-wingers that pander to those types.

He's not that bad. Many of his less recent videos are genuinely good or at least well done. More recently he shifted slightly from presenting the philosophical literature on various topics towards expressing his opinion on topics, something that he often does through emotion because feels>reals (he sometimes mentions the book "The Cultural Politics of Emotion", maybe that has something to do with it).
But as an intro to the history of philosophy he is/was good, and surely better than The School of Life.

He's shit. As far as Marxist YouTubers go there's only a few that don't completely botch Marxism. There's a channel called 'Cuck Philosophy' which is way better and not cancerous because it doesn't try to e-climb with the typical video essay style.

And Cuck Philosophy isn't even that sharp and still his grasp of Marxism is better than almost everyone else. Other good Marxists on YouTube are Brendan McCooney/Kapitalism101 and Zero Books (Douglas Lain, C. Derick Varn). Otherwise just stick to recordings of actual Marxists like Mattick Jr., Anwar Shaikh, Michael Heinrich, Moishe Postone (RIP), etc.

Cockshott, Tom O'Brien, both good but yeah outside of some of our imageboard affiliated leftists who, lets be honest, are mostly memers, the youtube scene is pretty lacking in serious Marxists. Pierre has gotten better recently on the imageboard front, idk if we would consider FinBol imageboard affiliated or not.

Tbh I don't really see K101 & Zero Books as doing similar things, I still watch most Zero Books content but I have to admit the only thing I really enjoy about them is the fact that Doug enlists such a wide variety of guests for the podcast, I actually prefer Derick (despite the fact that he's a contrarian fag he's very knowledgeable and almost fulfills a role of the mythical leftcom who shits on everyone equally including himself) & Amogh to Doug who I feel makes a lot of missteps in his attempt to function as a sort of open forum (for example, when he had that literal ISIS supporting warhawk shill on to shit on Assad and then dismissed the backlash, or the fact that he keeps bringing on Brooks), but on the other hand this approach often bears fruit like for example the recent episode he did with Glenn Loury which was really interesting. I really dislike almost all of Dougs Video Essays as I think they're incoherent and have no real structure to them, and he also falls for a lot of anti-communist bullshit in practice but I think his heart is in the right place. Honestly my biggest worry is that he instead of being one who influences left of centre people into leftism that instead by continually trailing the zeitgeist of Jordan Peterson et al and that general sphere of "Trigger the rightards ebin style" content, even though he does so in a more measured way, and the fact that he increasingly relies on these people for revenue streams that it is he who instead ends up being influenced by liberals and his creative choices end up moving further and further away from what is neccessary now in Leftism.

Although I recognize that some channels like ZeroBooks make decent content, I tend to enjoy theory discussion and historical analysis much more (like Kapitalism101's series on Capital, CuckPhylosophy's video on kpop, and all of Cockshott's videos). Of course there are many leftist channels that I enjoy for non-socialist reasons (like the the older Philosophy Tube, Eric Taxxon, and hbomberguy to name a few).

I agree with you, I also prefer hard theoretical, economic & historical content, I actually don't really fuck with any of these generic "leftists" who do cultural stuff because I don't need my entertainment to be tailored to my political worldview, and most of them do a shitty job of it, although Taxxon is a decent enough musician.

Doug's videos all sound the same to me and often feel like advertisments for a book he publishes. I mean, he literally mentions Angela Nagle's "Kill All Normies" in every video Jesus Christ. That together with opportunism when he recommends to read Solzhenitsyn and has this Al Qaida guy on podcast.
