I'm never gonna read das kapital, is this a worthwhile alternative or is there a better way?

Read Communist Manifesto, Wage, Labour and Capital, selections from his Economic and Philosphical manuscripts (like Estranged Labour). Also, no one said you have to read Capital in its entirety, you can read chapters that are relevant to what you're interested in. It's a huge work, you don't have to approach it with the aim of reading the whole thing. But you should definitely read parts of it.

Then read Mutual Aid by Kropotkin.

but is this abridged version any good?

Read the one by Otto Ruhle, its shit and misses a ton of important sections but it's better than the Oxford one.

Also read the first five chapters from capital as there the most important and won't significantly add to reading time.

Isn’t Capital English by default? No need to call it by its German translation

Try the synopsis written by Engels in stead.

turn off your internet and get shot you fucking mutt
(this is a joke, but you are a dumb fuck and should educate yourself, the english edition came out ten years later)

Yes, "Limits of Capital" by David Harvey.

OP, there's no way around it, you'll miss too many important things if you just get a substitute, on top of that too many "experts" like to insert their own interpretation of what Marx wrote or present certain things in a distorted way. My own advice is to start from an introductory text like Mandel's who does a good job presenting the basics, that's how I started. I've also arranged a 10-page PDF as an introduction to Capital.

And don't listen to
You HAVE read the entirety of Capital if you want to have some sort of grasp on Marx's ideas and way of thinking. Don't be lazy.

History is littered with Leftists who skipped Capital and tried to "do communism", and all of them just wound up making capitalism with red flags.

Don't be a idiot. Capital isn't hard, just read a little bit every night before you go to be. 15 minutes a night is plenty. You'll be done before you know it, and it gets "good" around 100 pages in and you'll probably wind up reading more in your spare time once he stops talking about how much linen = 1 coat

Don't do that. Harvey has a pretty fringe interpretation of Capital, to put it mildly. Honestly, just fucking read the original, it's not that bad.

please do not, Engels is critical sometimes and read him entirely instead of Marx isn't a good idea

This
I'm a brainlet when it comes to math, but when you can just look that stuff these days, there's not really much of an excuse.

In Harvey's defense though, in his guide to Capital from Verso, he recommends skipping his guide and reading Capital first.

Don't do this OP. Don't read Wage Labour & Capital, don't read Harvey, don't read Economic manuscripts of 1844, don't read any abridgements. Save your time and go straight to Capital, it gets easier if you survive Ch 1

OP, if you want an in-depth guide to Capital then I highly suggest Harry Cleaver’s online guide to capital.

If not, then read Paul Cockshotts Arguements for Socialism (can easily be found online) and other basic Marxist works first instead of going through Capitals Vol 1-4. That will also put you in a better position then going through capital. Or, if you want to say fuck all that and watch some videos, there’s a good series on YouTube that explains Marx’s economic views on capitalism really well:

Just to clarify because I've read most of what I have of Capital on Marxist.org, is the version there considered good?
