US Military Conducts drills in Downtown Los Angeles

Joshua Wright

This shit is fucking nuts. There were low flying attack helicopters and ground troops in the heart of LA. The USA is preparing to move towards military dictatorship as well as preparing for domestic war.

"The US military conducted a series of urban warfare exercises in the city of Los Angeles this week. With little in the way of advanced warning, thousands of frightened Los Angeles residents awoke to the sound of low-flying helicopters, gunfire and explosions.

In a statement released by the US Army on Monday, the day the drills began, residents were told they may hear loud noises associated with training including aircraft and weapons simulations. Almost none of the city’s more than 4 million residents saw this perfunctory announcement or were otherwise made aware of the impending military operation in the second largest city in the United States.

The Army’s statement justified the surprise operation explaining that the army will be “enhancing soldier skills by operating in various environments and settings. The local terrain and training facilities in Los Angeles provide the army with unique locations and simulates urban environments the service members may encounter when overseas. There is no replacement for realistic training. Each location selected enables special operations teams and flight crews to maintain maximum readiness and proficiency, validate equipment and exercise standard safety procedures.”

The Los Angeles Police Department, which is coordinating with the military, publicly acknowledged the training on Tuesday while the offices of Democratic Mayor Eric Garcetti has thus far said nothing about the operation.

Residents in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood shared chilling video on social media Monday night of attack helicopters flying low in formation without lights on. Some also reported that vibrations from nearby aircraft were strong enough to shake walls and household items as if in the midst of an earthquake. One resident interviewed by NBC 4 news reported, “People ran out of the store we were at because the store was shaking. That’s how low they were flying. A woman working in a security booth ran out because she thought her booth would fall apart.”

It’s no surprise that the military is preparing is conducting drills like these. A big period of civil unrest is looming and they are smart to anticipate it. There are the strikes in India, the strikes in Mexico, the recent strikes in Los Angeles itself and of course the great continuing unrest in France. If I had to guess when stuff will get a bit rocky it will be in 2020-21 when capitalism implodes right on schedule. America is a police state and it is sad that more people are not rightfully frightened at the militarization of our everyday lives.

We get flying military vehicles all the time maybe just not as close to the ground as these. Everyone is used to the ghettobirds as the LAPD choppers are called and it is part of the background noise to residents.

But yeah should be a reminder of their capabilities. We aren't even 30 years out of the last great riot in the city, when the real shit goes down the heavily militarized police department will be ready, I mean fuck look what happened with dorner.

An active campaign is clearly under way to terrorize the American population and prepare it for the imposition of martial law.
The USA is preparing to move towards military dictatorship as well as preparing for domestic war.

Is the WSWS claiming that a military dictatorship is just around the corner now? Why on earth would they do that when Trump is serving Porky just fine? IIRC the predecessor to the WSWS/SEP, Gerry Healy's party (forgot the name) claimed the same thing in the 80s, that Thatcher was about to institute martial law. The urban warfare exercises are to prepare for urban warfare abroad like Caracas

Blake Taylor
Blake Taylor

Gerry Healy split from the ICFI in the 80s. In the case of the US now, the wsws is absolutely correct. USA has openly stated that war with China is likely and all indications of militarizations throughout the globe point towards a preparation for world war. The financial markets are also in turmoil and a huge depression is just around the corner. Coinciding with this is the largest resurgence of working class struggle in decades which is sure to intensify. I’m sorry but you’re an absolute idiot if you don’t think the US is heading towards a military dictatorship at home

Michael Howard
Michael Howard

There's a thing from the 90's that Nazis will take over the USA after Russia nukes the USA. And Putin has been making lots of nukes recently.

Also yes, the real reason for the USA getting into WW1 and 2 was to crush Anarchists and Communists.

Oliver Morris
Oliver Morris

Trot/ML groups claim every year that the USA is descending into military dictatorship, usually they just hedge their bets by stating vaguely that "class struggle is intensifying" or some shit. It's a cover to justify centralist discipline and an adherence to Leninist dogma from civil war times instead of open, empirical debate on the state of capitalism. It's also useful to justify activism and newsletter shilling instead of actual base-building, there's no need to organize the working class when "global proletarian revolution is just around the corner guis, WWIII soon we promise!"

No, the missiles are not flying, no, militarized cops have been a thing in the USA for quite a while now, no, there's not going to be a global nuclear war that will magically bring us communism. Stop screaming HAPPENING like a bunch of /pol/tards and think for one second

you don't need a "cover" to justify party discipline. if you want to join Democrat Cops of America and larp about creating tenants unions, then go ahead and "base build." but that has absolutely nothing to do with actually building a party capable of influencing society.

the whole point of the party is to organize the working class. you're incredibly confused.

Is it not? Matamoros strikes, the strikes in India, the Gilets Jaunes, the strike in Los Angeles recently, the impending imperialist intervention in Venezuela. If this is not intensifying class struggle, nothing is. It’s only a matter of time before the US government is faced with internal dissent, no matter how minor.

How is WSWS or any Trot/ML org "organizing the working class" if all they do is show up to protests that were already happening and denouncing ever union, party, movement, etc. except themselves? You'd think after 60 years of existing in tiny useless sects you'd realize that strategy doesn't work and you'll have to get your hands dirty, both collaborating and debating with other socialist groups and actually trying to build grassroots workers organizations.

Breathlessly reporting that every day America lurches further into fascism and that every other lefty org is completely bankrupt and wrong does not a revolutionary movement make.

WSWS is organizing an auto workers rally right now in Detroit. Revolution isn’t something that the party creates through “debate with other socialist organizations”, it’s something that stems primarily from material conditions and class struggle.

Democratic centralism ensures that the party is disciplined enough to carry through revolutionary measures and doesn’t fall prey to opportunism and petty bourgeois pressures. You want “debate” look at the Democrat Cops of America, ISO, etc and see where that’s accomplished. At the LA teachers strike Bhaskar Sunkara, part of Democrat Cops of America leadership , cynically tweeted “The Democrat Cops of America and the ISO [International Socialist Organization] sending tacos to striking teachers is pretty good. But the SEP [Socialist Equality Party] is sending them the correct program, and let's not forget that's the most important thing”

That’s what pragmatism leads to, a bunch of “socialist” cheerleaders who have nothing more to offer than food and unconditional support rather than a perspective on what’s really at stake for the working class. By flyering people and explaining exactly who the enemy is we are able to get class concious workers to join ranks, form rank and file committees and launch strikes independent of the capitalist parties and the unions. These are things that take time and depend on the consciousness of the working class which is defined by the material conditions of the time. Now the working class is finally starting to wake up and are looking for real answers, which is why the wsws has been steadily gaining support.

you are strawmanning like crazy. reporting on the actual state of affairs is incredibly important, look at Bernie's SOTU response to see how effective and important it is.

I don't disagree that the tendency to show up at protests and stand aside is awkward, but what would you have organizations do? building "grassroots workers organizations" means what differently exactly, except that Trots actually try to study and figure out, from history, how to actually organize?

as for the small size of the organizations, that's due to concrete historical conditions. you would be the same person arguing against the Bolsheviks in the early 1900s because they were "sectarian" and too small to accomplish anything. but history shows that correct ideas and correct tactics lead to revolutionary potential.

again, no one can create a revolutionary movement. you're very confused about what you're talking about and i think you should actually take a page from the Trots and try to read instead of going to another pointless protest next time.

She fucking did (impose martial law), you idiot
No she fucking didn't. Maybe the party mythology claims to have discovered some "secret imposition" of martial law but for the rest of us it's plainly obvious there was no military dictatorship in Thatcherite Britain.

Look at the past when working class militancy was much greater. The third red scare would start with covert, then overt anticommunist propaganda (sort of seeing this already with the Atlantic Council censorship programs on social media) coupled with laws to jail / criminalize key leaders and organizations. If Trump declared martial law tomorrow all it would do would be to wake up the liberals.

Disclaimer 1: The Qanon bullshit is a PsyOp. Assange was onto something when he said it was someone who did have clearance but was trying to sway Trump supporters towards Neoconservatism

Disclaimer 2: Pedo blackmail/"insurance tapes" by 'shadow governments' did not start with P*zzagate or QAnon.

There was a raid on Lloyds Bank in London, 1971 when the robbers dug a tunnel and blew a hole in the floor right where the safety deposit box vault was and found MI5 photos of a Conservative MP raping a kid. In 1987 Florida customs and DC detectives busted some pedophile child trafficking ring and found out it was international, involved a network of satellite-linked secret warehouses filming child abuse and that it involved VIPs and embassy deals. The CIA stopped the D.C. detectives' investigations for 'national security' reasons. If you think the whole permagov pedo network blackmail thing is something that was dreamed up in 2016 you don't have a clue. The first major US reveals about this mechanism was by anarchist/leftist groups during the post-watergate era which lead to the MK ULTRA/NAOMI/SEARCH/OFTEN reveal, which Seymour Hersh was heavily involved with exposing.

The Republicans have some kind of pedo ring blackmail shit currently going on in Nevada and LV but most of it crosses party lines. There was a book which included a part exposing the '87 DC raid called "Operation Mind Control" (sardonic title) you should check out an interview with a CIA official trying to explain away why the CIA forced the DC police to stop investigating a pedo ring and her excuse is that there was an undercover agent inside who was trying to expose it and they jeopardized their cover.

Basically despite the boomer memes, there is an actual military vs spook scenario based around procuring blackmail archives. Sy Hersh said in 2017 that a Snowden-times-a-million figure digitized an archive of CIA 'crimes with intent' and that because of the implications of releasing what was discovered it couldn't be done yet. This was in the documentary 'Wormwood' and the director used imagery and cutting to another interviewee to finish Sy Hersh's sentence to say that the location of the security breach was Fort Knox.

Why do you think they have a Human Resources Command in Kentucky, with Abrams tanks, Apaches and thousands of troops defending the 'bullion' depository? To stop a fucking Ocean's Eleven heist? No, to stop parts of the military retrieving the archive - the US Secretary of the Treasury has to give advanced notice and be chaperoned to see the gold and it's only been checked twice, once last year and another time in the 70s. The Mint Police/Human Resources Command literally can tell the president to fuck off if he or she wants to snoop around the vaults. Because it's where the CIA keeps their pedo blackmail dirt.

It's the most valuable currency of different mafias that we call banks and intelligence agencies. It's messy as hell and it's not like what Qboomer makes it out to be like. This was not a drill, formation landing helicopters between high-rise buildings, streetlights and not even a police cordon or ambulances on standby, this was more dangerous than the Bin Laden raid in terms of the risk Vortex-Ring-State and wouldn't be carried out with the risk of injuring civilians - they would have done this on a MOUT site, they have the money to simulate the high-rises and complications of flashing lights and wind moving through a built-up downtown area - no one would risk their job by OKing this. This does look like a raid on an "insurance" depository, the military force is because the cult/gang groups that coordinate blackmail ops often carry weapons to buy them time to destroy evidence - the '87 raid found documents showing this was typical activity for the CIA 'cults'.

It could be any faction, not necessarily "MUH SEALED CLINTON SATANIST INDICTMENTS" it could be Trump/Epstein/Dershowitz for all we know. It's not a drill. It's not the UN's NWO black helicopters. Not suitcase nukes or some stupid shit.

Unfortunately, since I got that screencap off a google books preview here it's changed at least for me: books.google.co.uk/books?id=zUhHDwAAQBAJ&printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&q&f=false

It starts around page 238, I don't know if the missing pages in the preview are because I read it too many times and reached a limit or if it was omitted. See for yourself if this is me running out of previews or if they actually nixed those pages in the preview.

It was a dense read because it had me cross-checking the claims with a bunch of documentaries/news reports and it turned out to be true especially the Frank Olson stuff. I want to hear Trump say
“Welcome. Welcome to City 17.

You have chosen, or been chosen, to relocate to one of our finest remaining urban centers. I thought so much of City 17 that I elected to establish my Administration here, in the Citadel so thoughtfully provided by Our Benefactors. I have been proud to call City 17 my home. And so, whether you are here to stay, or passing through on your way to parts unknown, welcome to City 17. It's safer here.”

And

“It has come to my attention that some have lately called me a collaborator, as if such a term were shameful. I ask you, what greater endeavor exists than that of collaboration? In our current unparalleled enterprise, refusal to collaborate is simply a refusal to grow–an insistence on suicide, if you will.

Did the lungfish refuse to breathe air? It did not. It crept forth boldly while its brethren remained in the blackest ocean abyss, with lidless eyes forever staring at the dark, ignorant and doomed despite their eternal vigilance. Would we model ourselves on the trilobite? Are all the accomplishments of humanity fated to be nothing more than a layer of broken plastic shards thinly strewn across a fossil bed, sandwiched between the Burgess shale and an eon's worth of mud?

In order to be true to our nature, and our destiny, we must aspire to greater things. We have outgrown our cradle. It is futile to cry for mother's milk, when our true sustenance awaits us among the stars. And only the universal union that small minds call 'The Combine' can carry us there.

Therefore I say, yes, I am a collaborator. We must all collaborate, willingly, eagerly, if we expect to reap the benefits of unification. And reap we shall.”
