NK has been pursuing rapprochement with SK since the turn of the millennium, and it seems to me like they are trying to angle for reunification a la E/W Germany. For one reason or another the nuclear deterrent won't dissuade the US bourgeoisie forever, and it's either try to reconcile with the South now, or wait for the US to invade in these opening moves of WW3.

I don't find it so strange for Trump to say this. He's obviously seen how North Korea has modern and developed infrastructure for a country so isolated. He knows the potential it has to grow if sanctions are scrapped.
