Is there a right to political self-determination?
I'm interested in the idea of a new nation for the southern US but under a socialist framework. Given overwhelming southern support for succdems Huey Long and FDR, it appears that possibility is there.

Forget about it now. Secession as a plausible concept has been dead in the water since 1865. Good luck 1) getting people to consider in current conditions that leaving the US would be more beneficial to them than staying in and 2) successfully negotiating the consent of other states (Texas v. White), if not, prepare for civil war against a heavily militarized US government and police force. You’d have to be absolutely politically retarded to think the US would allow a state to leave, especially if this state would be socialist. States are so economically and even socially integrated it would be unfeasible. This isn’t the nineteenth century

Why? Even with the Great Migration blacks are still a majority in a significant part of the Black Belt.
By that same reasoning we should give all of the US southwest and parts of Florida to Hispanics for self-determination. I don’t really what know what non-white communists here think about the issue though so I guess my opinion isn’t really as relevant in these matters at the end of the day.
Why should we carve up the United States based on racial lines? Blacks or any other race certainly do not constitute a nation according to Stalin’s criteria at the very least. It would be a reactionary, ethno-nationalist policy move

The creation of the SSRs is very different from creating a separate country.
the creation of the SSRs wasn't just due to race if that was the case then sibera would have it's own SSR there were also language differences and cultural differences
SSRs had the right to become independent countries if they wanted to.
Blacks have a unique culture in the US. Also it's not like Ukrainians or Belarusians are especially different from Russians.

Countries aren't just based on culture. India has way more cultural variety within it than Germany and Austria have between them. And like I implied, the Black Belt wouldn't have to secede, just like the SSRs didn't secede.
