Bumplocked a series of threads today for not being news. I try to keep the term loose, but there's a lot of anons intentionally pushing that grey area with editorial pieces which may or may not be news depending on if they're actually covering events or if it's just opinion pieces masquerading as news.
Additionally we are approaching the end of May. Friendly reminder that I usually start bumplocking news that is more than a month old when it gets bumped.
As a standard rule-of-thumb, the base criteria I look for to see if it's news or not is if a base action has been taken that has spurred a reaction. This implies that the base action or the possible reaction is being reported on.
Examples that might seem like blogposts but which meet this criteria:
An economic analysis was performed to come up with a prediction.
A new computer model was created to come up with a conclusion
A poll was held leading to this analysis
Examples of newsish articles that are actually blogposts:
Thinkers analyze things, no polls or data models were created, etc.
Reporters interviewed a couple faggots in regards to an actual news story.
It's not even a news article, it's just discussing Camels. It would be a news article if this was a new discovery, however.
Examples of grey areas that are not news but are news:
The article is about extremely old news, but there was a new discovery.
While an opinion piece, this piece also arguably mentioned numerous tidbits of recent news that has happened.
While being a shit article, this particular piece is about a reaction to something that happened, as reported by a news agency. It barely qualifies, but it is news.
I hope this helps anons understand how I distinguish fake/not news from news.
