A Michigan resident awoke Tuesday morning to slashed tires, swastikas and a racist message spray-painted on the pickup truck parked outside his family’s home in Vienna Township. Hubert Roberts Jr., 62, who is black, said his vehicle was vandalized overnight in what he believes is a hate crime, MLive reported.
A vandal — or vandals — used white spray paint to scrawl a message that included a blatant spelling error. The words “wite pride” — blatantly spelled wrong — were written on the side of the vehicle. Roberts thinks he might have been targeted because markings on his vehicle refer to the Black Lives Matter movement. The words “Black Panthers” also appear on the truck.
Roberts told said this is the first time he’s been the victim of a racially-motivated attack and told MLive that he is “disappointed with us as a community.” A neighbor noticed the vandalism and reported it to Roberts at around 7 a.m. Tuesday, according to the report. Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell said the incident is “of concern” and assigned a detective to investgiate it.
