Are you one of those people who thinks "meek" means weak and pathetic, instead of what it really means?

What does it really mean?

Christian theology needs a complete remake, you are full of contradictions

Attached: ddd.png (625x626, 103.13K)

People have abandoned religion because of your contradictions, maybe it was the plan of the devil to manipulate scripture itself

Like a lot of things it got mistranslated into Latin. It comes from the Greek word "praus" which means a disciplined loyal soldier. A meek Christian is powerful, and disciplines that power in service of the Lord. A person who is not meek is someone who does not discipline or control their strength.

biblehub.com/greek/4239.htm

Did you even read the book?

Whiny children have abandoned religion, with zero attempt to understand it.

No, the whole western world did so beside few exceptions, because they noticed they were suffering for nothing

Revolution was intellectual in first place, the contradictions of your religion have been made evident today

Semitic religions like judaism or islam did not suffer the same crisis because they have fewer contradictions, but this may include buddhists and freemasons as well they have grown only

"A quiet disposition of spirit, joined with care neither to offend any man, nor be offended at any thing one's self."
It's basically the concept of spiritual discipline. Not feckless pacificity like subversive anti-Christians define it.

Right, is that why they had to develop Pilpul and Naskh respectively? They didn't suffer the same crisis because their religions are false and they all know it to some degree.

The western world abandoned religion and replaced it with ideologies, which are infinitely more contradictory and cause suffering that would be incalculable in the age of religion. Ideologies have killed hundreds of millions of people in just the 20th century. The reason why this happened has nothing to do with "contradictions" but with the fact that newly literate (and scientifically educated) people read the Bible and applied literal analysis of the works therein, when it wasn't meant to be read literally. The Bible was written by people who didn't even understand what "literal" meant, all of their language was figurative.

Is this a joke? Torah and Koran are bunches of loose disconnected writings collected into a single book hundreds of years after the Bible, they have multiple secondary texts that try to balance and make sense of their internal contradictions.

The reason judaism and islam haven't fallen apart is because they are barely literate and suffer horrible punishment for criticizing their religion, whereas Christians are all extremely literate and tolerate atheists or even other faiths.

Christianity has failed to be the religion of reason, of the logos, it has become a cultural recurrence and an oppressive belief and that's why modernism has trumpled its roots.

Every ideology has failed(nazism, communism, fascism, illuminism, etc…), ideologies are a thing of the past in the west. Materialism is not an ideology and it existed even in biblical times if you mean that.

Again, they have nothing to do with the modern world. Even china while calling itself communist is completely capitalist and doesn't give a winnie the pooh.

And by the way Karl Marx was the opposite of what communists were, just like Jesus was often the opposite of what christians are.

You have problems are the core of your faith not only in scriptures.

The same happened under christianity, probably worse since people rebelled brutally

at* the core

lol. Ideology drives even atheism, today ideologies are all powerful. The kind of ideologies that command the government of sweden to select teenage girls and force them into camps with adult muslim men as entertainment. Socialism itself continues to kill people today, millions every year, from the smallest socialist policies in places like Chicago to mass socialist nightmares in places like Zimbabwe and Venezuela.

In Biblical times and especially the ten thousand years of oral tradition preceding it, no distinction whatsoever was made between literal and figurative, they were the same thing.
For example the idea of dragons breathing fire came about because the bite of a snake feels like fire, and people often said a snake "burned them" even as early as a few hundred years ago. When someone said the sky is a dome and the earth is flat, it is because when you stand under it that's what it looks like.
There didn't need to be a distinction between figurative and literal because there was no winnie the pooh science to require such a distinction.

When you tell people God cares about them while extremely painful diseases exist and spread through microorganisms it really makes you think.

For example an huge difference between judaism/islam and christianity is the lack of the devil at a powerful level, I mean the devil exists according to them but is nothing compared to the role of the devil in christianity. You have almost gnostic beliefs yet you are not and that causes intellectual black holes.

I mean I can regurgitate things from a Christopher Hitchens book dust jacket too if you'd like. Roman Catholic reductionism and theological shortcuts have absolutely lead, by degrees, to the reductio ad absurdum of fractional exegesis and the endless Protestantism it spawned. But treating modernism as a competing framework rather than the simple base addiction to commodity that it is, is absolutely retarded. Calling Christianity a failure when comparing it to the persistent ground state of failure that is secularist modernism is just silly.

Really makes you think.

Luther was not a gnostic, neither mormons

Luther tried to disguise it, but monergism taken to its extreme conclusion is indistinguishable from gnosticism. And mormons are literally a retread of 2nd century gnosticism, just recycled in the American midwest with a twist of Jesus for legitimacy.

This. Someone needs to make a decent meme with an appropriate image so that it can be passed around. I've seen this explained several times over the last few years here, but without a catchy meme that can be reposted the concept will not catch on.

If I can get some image suggestions I can overlay the text.

(Tangentially; Another way I've heard this referenced is, "So, you are strong? Are you strong enough to shelter the weak?)

Mormons are NOT Christian. Looking through this thread, you have an extremely superficial view of Christianity (or perhaps you're an undercover Mormon/JW). Just because something looks like something on the outside doesn't make it so. In all seriousness, I advise you stop talking about something you have no idea about and do some reading or leave this board entirely.

Wrong. Why do you even argue when you don't know anything? Satan will be cast into the lake of fire in the end and the Earth will become like it was before the fall, like Eden.

I want him to stay and keep making a fool of himself so he can see where he's wrong. It's painfully obvious he doesn't actually know the first thing about Christianity or theology.

Well winnie the pooh, and I thought reading the Vulgate would get me close to the true word. I guess I'm spending the summer learning Greek.

But God does care about them despite the suffering of the world. He sent His only Son to earth to suffer the WORST this world had to offer, in order to offer us salvation.

Please go away, go to /islam/ or Zig Forums, no one here cares for your heresy.

Yep. It's roughly similar to the English term of "breaking" a horse of all of its uncoordinated wild behavior, making it disciplined and loyal.

You don't have to learn it, there are plenty of decent commentary on the subject. Just dig a bit deeper.

It's pretty depressing that even this place have these anemic, leftist Christians that refuse to stand up for anything. They think it's virtuous to be pathetic and subscribe to beliefs that allow themselves and their countries to be taken advantage of. The religion won't last much longer with people like the current pope in charge.

Well I guess I learned something from the Vulgate. This is the garden of Eden story, which I never fully comprehended in English. A Jesuit even told me I got my translation and interpretation of that part of the Vulgate right.

Meekness toward God is that disposition of spirit in which we accept His dealings with us as good, and therefore without disputing or resisting. In the OT, the meek are those wholly relying on God rather than their own strength to defend against injustice. Thus, meekness toward evil people means knowing God is permitting the injuries they inflict, that He is using them to purify His elect, and that He will deliver His elect in His time (Isa 41:17, Luk 18:1-8). Gentleness or meekness is the opposite to self-assertiveness and self-interest. It stems from trust in God's goodness and control over the situation. The gentle person is not occupied with self at all. This is a work of the Holy Spirit, not of the human will (Gal 5:23).

Tbh, I like this thread and I learned something new about the Bible today. Thank you greek speaking brothers for teaching me this, and thank you OP for starting the thread.

Also special thanks to the fedora ITT, I really needed a good laugh today.

‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ saith the Lord of hosts. (Zechariah 4:6b)

On what planet do you live? The open borders policy that have allowed Africa and the Middle East to flood Europe with 70-80 IQ brown people, many of them Muslims, is pure ideology. Nations are the people that live in them, and the human capital in the West is being ravaged. It's pretty much beyond repair now. Much of the continent will be third world in a generation or two. It's ridiculous to call it pragmatism or even sane. The same goes for much of the feminist and socialist policies.

There are quite a few things wrong with this definition. But it's no surprise given its origin.

Dude just fight them lmao. Meek means strong. Also what is the Resurrection of the Dead? Hold up, a NEW earth? -t. Brainlet

Muslim insults catholics praying just in Front of the now barred Ste-Rita church, the one in which priests and parishians got thrown out of it during a mass just a few weeks ago and just a few days after a priest had his throat slit by islamic terrorists. Apparently he came, told them that they were pitiful, played a music with lyrics "No god no master" (or something like that), and instantly got what he deserved.

Logic literally cannot exist by itself without a God.
If we were a product of evolution, 2+2 only equals 4 if it gave us a reproductive ability. You see where I'm going with this, more complex concepts could be absurdly wrong and our brains wouldn't be able to conceive it differently.
Logic without a God is based on competition and not on objective truth, which can only stem from God.

Learn Greek in your spare time, life's long enough. But don't fall for the idiots who think translations of the bible can be as accurate as original text.
In particular those of the KJV, who pretend to know about translations when they only know English.

That's like 'muh hypocrisy', just another cheap and unsubstantive attack. I have a relative who brings these up, but when I ask him to be specific and elaborate he just goes 'lol look it up'

I have enough quotes in the thread to make some really nice memes. I need images. What I posted is what is out there. We can do so much better. I NEED APPROPRIATE IMAGES to lay text over. Please help. WE CAN DO SO MUCH BETTER.

The way atheists proselytize is not by appealing to their target but by saying anything that keeps the atheist believing what he still does. This seems rather stupid, but strangely this is actually a good method of proselytization that we should probably use.

I use the KJV when proselytizing and argue to this day that it is the best English translation for native speakers. But I always make sure to cross reference it with an interlinear Septuagint. I'm well aware of the KJV's Protestant origins and theological inconsistencies. This entire debate about meekness is a case study about the issues with translations after all.

The funny thing is, when I talked to a Serbian Hieromonk one time and asked him what is the best bible to get, he told me KJV was still the best handsdown.

So do I, I can somewhat read the Bible in Greek alone but I discuss in English still.

But I did not object to what both of us do.
There are people who claim that the KJV is perfect and the literal word of God, see other threads.
That is a falsehood that I think stems from wanting to have both Sola Scriptura and translations.
The average "Christian" doesn't want to put the hours to learn a language to better study the bible.

Still, English isn't the best language to read the bible.

...

Do you think it stops with scripture? What do you think political correctness is?

user, atheists can't understand all those big words and philosophical terms you're using. You have to dumb it down for them.

I can't prove something to a person who wouldn't change his mind.
The existence of this very thread proves translations are fallible and yet you pretend it isn't.

It's not that difficult to understand, the meek inherit the earth because the people who engage in senseless violence die violently.

You're bringing too much theology into a matter of fact statement.

You know the Torah is literally the first five books of the Bible, right? Are you confusing the Pentatuch with the Talmud?

Well, not quite. "Mites" is good translation, especially when you consider context of this beatitude (Psalm 37) and what it really mean in latin - not "meek" alone but more importantly "patient", "gentle" and "humble". It's help to see what Latin fathers and doctors 9guys who actually spoke latin) like Ambrose and Augustine or Thomas and a Lapide commented on it.
Over all, it's not latin fault but english. In my languge it was always translated as "quiet" and it fits better, both with latin and greek.

Good Thread.

Pic related in the vein of stuff that gets taken out of context, and makes people think being weak or a pushover is somehow Christian.
