Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones argued he was acting as a journalist, comparing himself to the Washington Post reporters who uncovered the Watergate scandal, when he questioned the official narrative of the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting on his talk show.
In written arguments filed Friday, the right-wing radio host moved to dismiss a defamation lawsuit filed by the families of some of the 26 people killed in the Connecticut shooting. Jones acknowledged that he had called the shooting a hoax, but said he now believes it happened.
“Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein relied on allegations from ‘Deep Throat’ to link the Nixon Administration to the Watergate break-in,” his lawyers wrote in filing for a dismissal. “Such journalism, questioning official narratives, would be chilled if reporters were subject to liability if they turned out to be wrong,”
A gunman killed 20 first-graders and six educators at the Newtown, Connecticut, school Dec. 14, 2012.
Several families filed suit in April in state Superior Court, saying that Jones’ comments on his show, “Infowars,” questioning the shooting have tormented them and subjected them to harassment and death threats by his followers, some of whom have accused them of being crisis actors.
“The First Amendment simply does not protect false statements about the parents of one of the worst tragedies in our nation’s history,” said Bill Bloss, an attorney who represents the families. “Any effort by any of the defendants to avoid responsibility for the harm that they have inflicted will be unsuccessful.”

Jones is an actor who is some capacity is working for/protected by the government of the United States of America. I stopped listening to Infowars but every now and then one of the 15 min bites shows up in my feed and sure enough there's Alex Jones making no effort as usual, someone with his knowledge and resources should be welcoming a chance at discovery and a real court case, isn't he always talking about how he's "all in" and wants to "savage the enemy" "front line shock troop", but any time he actually gets a chance to do it suddenly everything is made to quietly go away, as long as he's quietly discrediting himself in the process.

For example: back in 1947, they hadn't applied think tank contingency planning to managing the inadvertantly release of sensative information yet, so when news broke about the Roswell Incident, they tried a kneejerk reaction, telling people 'the first report was wrong, and it was actually a weather balloon', which only added fuel to the fire……

Alex Jones doesn't owe the families of the dead children anything. Even if he did say that those children didn't die it's his right to say it and even broadcast it. The same way it's the westboro Baptist churches right to say that soldiers deserve to die.
The Westboro Baptist Church is a racket based on provoking people and then suing them after they bring the beat down. Their slogans are carefully worded general religious statements in the form of "God hates fags" and they tread a very fine line of legality.
Alex on the other hand has directly slandered victims and families involved in the incident, as when he specifically called out David Hogg. There is a case against him even if all the charges don't stick.
