Eating Too Much Processed Sugar Increases Your Risk of Alzheimer’s

Research has found that a high intake of processed sugar can raise the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. The study, published in the journal Scientific Reports, revealed that high sugar levels caused by excessive consumption of processed sugars can damage an essential enzyme called macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF), which is associated with inflammation in the initial stages of Alzheimer’s disease.

According to research, people with diabetes are more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease, which develops as a result of the buildup of abnormal proteins that form plaque and clog the parts of the brain. In turn, these clogs continuously damage the brain, leading to serious cognitive problems. However, although previous research discovered that cellular proteins are harmed by glucose and its products through glycation, the relationship between Alzheimer’s disease and sugar is not yet completely understood.

Thus, researchers from the University of Bath and Wolfson Centre for Age-Related Diseases, King’s College London, both in the U.K., looked at the brain samples of people with and without Alzheimer’s disease by using a method that helps identify the process of glycation.

Results revealed that during the initial stages of Alzheimer’s disease, glycation damages the MIF enzyme, which is essential in regulating insulin levels and the immune response. MIF also plays a role in the reaction of glial brain cells to the accumulation of abnormal proteins in the brain in Alzheimer’s disease. thereby, the researchers suspect that the decrease and prevention of MIF activity due to glycation could be the beginning of the progression of the disease. It also seems that glycation of these enzymes increases as Alzheimer’s advances.

Therefore, the researchers concluded that since sugar damage can reduce the functioning of MIF, this could be a primary risk factor in the development of Alzheimer’s disease.

Tips to avoid indulging in processed sugars

Eating too much sugar does not only increase the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, but also other diseases, such as obesity, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and tooth decay. Thus, it really is important to cut your sugar intake. Some experts recommend that the daily added sugar intake should not exceed six teaspoons or 25 grams (g) for women and nine teaspoons or 37 g for men. Here are some tips you can try to cut your sugar intake:

Avoid sugary drinks: Instead of drinking sodas, energy drinks, sports drinks, and fruit drinks, opt for lower-sugar drink options. These include water, sparkling water with a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice, herbal or fruit teas, unsweetened tea, and black or flat white coffee. Avoiding sugary drinks can greatly reduce your sugar intake and could help you lose weight.

Avoid sugary desserts: Most desserts like cakes, pies, and ice cream are packed with sugar. If you are craving something sweet, opt for fresh fruit, Greek yogurt with cinnamon or fruit, baked fruit with cream, dark chocolate, or dates. These alternatives not only cut your sugar intake, but also increase your fiber, vitamin, and mineral intake.

Read labels carefully: Sometimes, added sugars can be difficult to identify as current food labels don’t differentiate between natural sugars and added sugars. Therefore, you will have to check the ingredients list and note the order in which sugar appears on the list because ingredients are listed in order of the highest percentage first. Added sugar is also disguised in other names, making it more difficult to identify. Here are some of the most common names: high-fructose corn syrup, cane sugar or juice, maltose, dextrose, invert sugar, rice syrup, molasses, and caramel.

On a related note…following capitalism will decrease your life expectancy.

No - it *can - if you are a mindless consumer that is not careful what you eat or ingest. Capitalism also provides the healthy alternatives too (plenty of other healthy foods out there WITHOUT these toxic chemicals). Its up for the consumer to make the choice (we have consumer choice under capitalism).

I gradually shifted my diet from food enhanced by science to be extremely good tasting(overwhelm your senses) and addictive to natural food straight from nature. All my cravings are gone. Parents are stupid. Try to gain independence from their tyranny—don't let them control what you eat. Cook your own food. It might not taste good at first but you'll eventually get it right.

Two great things I recommend doing to easily learn how to cook. Trial and error is everything, practice does make perfect. But you can learn to cook faster by buying older cook books (I'm talking cooking books from the 50s, 60s, 70s and even 80s and 90s such as the Frugal Gourmet book series). Most of those older cook books have simple recipes and are DIRT CHEAP. Just pic out some simple recipes and start there. Read the instructions and follow them step by step. Make sure what you are cooking is organic and healthy though. If a recipe asks for sugar then replace it with honey (or organic cane sugar) as an example. Also, look up cooking channels on Youtube. You can get some great ideas from some of the DIY cooking channels posted on Youtube. Just make sure you substitute everything with organic and natural ingredients if they require any processed shit in the recipes.

After a while, you'll learn to remember how to cook different dishes with ease. And you'll get better and better at cooking too.

I made a dish the other night and it was great. No sugar. Very healthy. You take some organic green beans and cook them in a skillet. Chop up some ginger root, and toss some of the chopped ginger in there. Add some sea salt and freshly ground pepper. Stir it up for around 8 to 10 minutes while sizzling. Had this with a side of medium-cooked steak. Delicious.

this is your mind on public schooling.

sugar causes cancer too

Jewish lies.

No, too much processed sugar does cause cancer. For real. Kikes in the Sugar Industry actually bribed Harvard scientists in the 60s to cover this up.

Sugar ?
It used to be aluminium that cause alzheimers.
What will it be tomorrow ?
Choc. chip cookies.
"Research" is all so much crap.
Most of it is funded to come up with certain "results".

Example: Monsanto and Roundup.

Heavy metal toxins are the main cause, still are. Sugar does not help. If you read the fucking report they say processed sugar increases the risk of getting Alzheimers. And I would not be surprised one bit.

Take your kikery somewhere else you fucking liar.

READ IT AND WEEP!

Ha! I'm not lying. Seriously do your fucking research. Many many doctors have backed this up, many studies have been done. Heavy metals are NOT good for your brain! They act as neurotoxins.

Bullshit.

Really? Mercury is good for your brain? Aluminium is good, huh?

OK. Prove it. I want you to spike some water with mercury and drink it. Get an old mercury thermometer, break it, dump the mercury in with water and drink it! See what happens to your mental state in a few days.

Stop spreading lies.

I'm not lying. Here is a doctor. Listen to him.

He's not even a Doctor. lol

You know what? If you want to see a liar, just look right in the mirror. You are either retarded or deliberately deceitful.

What's a matter? Can't handle your narrative crumbling so you have to resort to stamping your feet and name calling?

Not pushing a narrative. You are the one simply lying. Do you actually believe heavy metals are good for your health? You must be nuts if so, completely nuts.

Don't tell fibs.

I don't.

We have only consumer choice in socialism, because gov/society wouldnt allow any shit on the market, for people to unknowingly be coerced into buying/consuming. Its "we dont allow any wolfs in a barn", instead of "you can just run to the other side of the barn and avoid them, chickens".

PROCREATION IS MURDER !!!

Aspartame increases the riskof Alzheimers even more. I had a total Chad, aryan overman for a roommate awhile ago and he drank a case of diet Coke a day. He was a good guy though, and I miss him. He always tried to get me to go for runs and stuff with him and I regret not doing so.

idiot

Governments already have the authority to ban toxic chemicals, guess what? They won't. So your assumption that the government is "all good" is total BS. Many people in the government actually have worked in mega corps before.

...

Capitalism is the best alternative - no, its not perfect but its the best system we have and it works. In capitalism, consumers have a choice. They can choose what to purchase, and what not to purchase. Consumer choice and competition is what makes capitalism attractive.

For example, if you don't want to eat junk foods - you don't have to. You are not forced to eat junk. Its an option. Should you eat junk? No. But you still have a choice to boycott and purchase certified organic and non-GMO foods if you like. You can grow your own foods too if you want to, in your backyard. You can purchase meats WITHOUT toxic hormones or nitrite preservatives. That is also an option. But…. YOU have to take responsibility. YOU are given that consumer choice. YOU have to decide what it is you are going to do.

And let me guess, he was in his 20s or 30s and still young. Let him keep drinking all that toxic Diet Coke for another decade or two and THEN tell us about his health conditions! He may feel good now, but all that processed sugar and aspartame will catch up with him and he's going to have some serious health problems later on!

I'm looking into the Keto diet myself. I do intend to still eat some of my favorite veggies like green beans and asparagus though. But I like fresh meats already and typically purchase them in bulk without the hormones or nitrites added, and I deep freeze them for future meals. I'm also purchasing free-range chicken and their eggs from a local farmer. He sells them dirt cheap, has hundreds of these chickens and roasters roaming around and clucking on his private property. Anyway, keto is the way to go: with fresh meats alone you get most of the protein, minerals and vitamins you need. And a little organic veggies on the side won't hurt either.

Capitalism–let individuals determine how much to produce and when as oppose to a central planner. How is that going to shorten your life?
The market place–a system of distributing goods and services based on supply and demand.
