LAURENS CO., SC (WSPA) - A Laurens County father and daughter have been arrested on charges of incest after the woman gave birth to a child by her own father.
According to the Laurens County Sheriff's Office, Katlyn Lauren Edwards and her father James Travis Brown are both charged with Incest.
Investigators say Edwards gave birth to a child after being impregnated by her biological father.
The child later died at a medical facility in Charleston.
“It is beyond my comprehension how this could take place between a father and daughter. At this time, I can’t confirm the baby died from complications related to incest, however we wonder if that’s the case," said Laurens County Sheriff Don Reynolds.
"We are working with medical professionals and the Solicitors Office regarding that aspect of the investigation and will update everyone if there are any additional charges.”
Both Edwards and Brown claimed the relationship was consensual and investigators say they found evidence to support that claim.
Edwards was arrested on October 22 while Brown is currently in custody in another county on unrelated charges and will be transferred to Laurens County to face the Incest charge when he is released.
Well, the man passed on his horrible cranial disfigurement, and since he had the kid with his daughter, those same genetics will probably be strong in the offspring. Incest isn't ethnically or biologically wrong, but it does worsen the risk of genetic and developmental issues and over the course of multiple generations you start to see the DNA structure breakdown in a manner similar to data artifacting from a file being copied too many times away from the original source. They probably already have a history of incest in the family, and continuing the trend over and over is dangerous. Remind yourself that dog breeds were artificially created by enforcing incest between dogs, and most purebred dogs have short lifespans and severe health issues… so the 'less valuable' mixed breeds are actually better pets. The same goes for humans, you don't want to keep cooking the same DNA in the same pot for too long, or else things start to spoil.
TL;DR: Only healthy and genetically fit people should consider engaging in incest, it isn't generally advisable, and 'one and done' per generation is a good policy for avoiding the creation of Downie babies. Don't be like England or Spain, with their dribbling, barely-breathing hellspawn.

Probably–they produced a child. In most US states, having consanguineous relationships is not illegal, as long as the younger person is legally an adult. What many US states still do prohibit is producing children from such relationships.
Breeding direct relatives together doesn't guarantee a mutant on the first try, but it can increase the chances of any shared common genetic mutations by 4X instead of the usual (~1x plus a tiny chance of 2x) times you'd get with two total strangers fucking. It's really more sensible to avoid the risk entirely. The "no inbred children" law is really rather accommodating of the issue.
