German pharmaceuticals and chemicals giant, Bayer, announced plans to cut 12,000 out of 118,200 jobs worldwide, or roughly 1 in 10 jobs, in hopes of cutting costs and regaining investor favor after a series of legal setbacks over its purchase of Monsanto earlier this year.
As the FT reports, the proposed reorganization include a plan to exit the market for animal health products, as well the company's Coppertone sun care and Dr. Scholl’s foot care product lines; Bayer also plans to sell the group’s 60% stake in service provider Currenta.
"Including the synergies expected from the acquisition of Monsanto, Bayer anticipates annual contributions of €2.6bn from 2022 on as a result of its planned efficiency and structural measures," the group said in a statement.
Werner Baumann, the Bayer chief executive, said: “With these measures, we are positioning Bayer optimally for the future as a life sciences company.”
The group’s shares have tumbled in recent months, after a California court awarded $289MM in damages to a school groundskeeper with terminal cancer.
The jury found that the man’s sickness was the direct result of his exposure to the infamous weedkiller manufactured by Monsanto. The sum has since been reduced by a higher court, but analysts and investors worry that the avalanche of follow-up cases will be costly for Bayer all the same.
I must give credit to Commiefornia for one thing: they actually challenged this corrupt damn corporation. In a very few rare instances, Commiefornia is good for something.

Golden Rice, vitamin A enriched rice, ist the poster child of GMO. Many people argue that there should be no regulations on GMO, because Golden Rice could be a remedy to vitamin A deficiency among mothers and children in third world countries.
But it's not even on the market (pic related).
So while >80% of all GMOs are for toxin-resistance, like Roundup ready, we should have no regulations, because there might be a product in the future that might be good? Golden Rice is in development since the 1990s and the release was pushed back for 15 years.
Also there is a safety concern with “Golden Rice”. That is the presence of retinoic acid, which is a metabolite of vitamin A and linked to causing defects of fetus. Earlier strains required people to eat 1.5kg rice daily to meet the vitamin A requirement. Newer strains have higher risks related to retinoic acid.

Its simple: this kind of news shatters the corporate narrative. If enough people knew that there are healthy alternatives to fight diabetes, cancer, dementia, Alzehimers, etc. what would happen to Big Pharma? Their stocks would tank! Their profits would implode! Also, this is the reason Big Pharma was lobbying politicians back in 2011 to literally BAN all supplements. Luckily they failed, there was massive anger and pressure put against that. But Big Pharma actually wanted to gut and ban the free market to maintain their monopoly and they almost succeeded too.
