This is one of the theories that is out there, but the actual evidence and eye-witness accounts that aired have been rare. Here's the breakdown…
-The flight was followed by fighter jets. Witnesses said they saw jets actually making wide circles around the plane before it went down.
-an explosion was seen while it was in air
-an engine (which heat-seeking missiles would target) was found miles along before the debris of the crash site, which indicated it was hit and fell off
-one of the most interesting facts was that when family members of the victims of that flight were allowed to listen to the cockpit voice recording, (no media or recording devices allowed in the room) they heard the commotion of the passengers fighting back, but what should have been I think a 30 minute recording, had the last 3 minutes as silence. It seemed that whatever was in those last 3 minutes was deleted. The suspicion is that the passengers successfully regained control of the aircraft, and that's what was in those last 3 minutes, but before they could communicate this they were shot down, or they had already been hit by the missile and there was nothing they could have done anyway.

Of course this part of the story was spun to avoid the tragic details.

Confirmed idiot for not knowing what stuxnet is. Stuxnet was an electronic worm which, once activated, could fry the hardware of old C2 (Command and Control) machines. The CIA and Mossad created stuxnet, loaded it onto a floppy, infiltrated Iran's nuclear facilities and fed it into one of the old air-gapped computers that helped operate all the machinery. Once it was loaded, it crashed all the hardware in the nuclear facility, not just the operating system but all of it. And it was all manual HUMINT espionage, not remote hacking.

It didn't just crash hardware, it made the turbines at the plant spin faster beyond what they were designed for, so they had to be constantly replaced at a much faster rate, slowing their production to a crawl. They didn't know what was going on, because the problem was intermittent and I think the virus even hid the actual turbine info and replaced it with "everything is running fine"
