President Trump said Friday that he might declare a national emergency so that he could bypass Congress and order the construction of his long-promised wall on the southern border.
“Absolutely, we can call a national emergency. I haven’t done it. I may do it. I may do it. We can call a national emergency and build it very quickly,” he said during a press briefing in the Rose Garden after a two-hour meeting with top Democrats about the government shutdown and border security.
“It’s another way of doing it. If we can do it through a negotiated process, we’re giving that a shot.”
Asked if that stance was a threat to Democrats, Trump replied: “I never threaten anybody but I am allowed to do it.”
He also said he could seize private property from people who own land on the border “under the military version” of eminent domain, the law that allows the government to seize private property for public or private development and not face any court action.

Trump's threat was first disclosed by Chuck Schumer, the Senate minority leader, during a news conference outside the White House. He accused the president of holding federal workers 'hostage' for the wall and urged him to continue the conversation with the government open.
The president confirmed the remarks as he addressed reporters in the Rose Garden.
'I did. I did. I did say that. Absolutely I said that. I don’t think it will but I am prepared,' Trump said at the beginning of a lengthy news conference.
Pence said that Trump's stance heading into a Friday morning meeting with congressional leaders is 'no wall, no deal,' but he's willing to negotiate other aspects of an agreement to reopen the government.
'I think the president’s made it very clear – no wall, no deal,' he told Tucker Carlson after the Fox News host asked about the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. 'But look, we really are prepared to negotiate, we’re prepared to talk, we’re prepared to listen,' he added.

Let me tell you something I learned about the law when I worked as a Circle K security guard. When a suspect crosses a defined barrier, such as a locked door or a wall, they have proven beyond a reasonable doubt that they intend to break the law. At circle K these areas were the back office, and behind the counter. Stepping behind the counter at Circle K is an automatic felony charge, and if security is there, you will be tackled, handcuffed, and detained in the office until a cop drives you to jail. Why is this relevant? If a beaner crosses an imaginary line in the dirt, there is reasonable doubt that he is trying to break the law.
