The study was conducted by a Catholic priest who is a sociology professor at CUA.
Clergy sexual abuse is still a problem. Since peaking 35 years ago, it has declined much less than commonly thought. The decline is consistent with an overall drop in sexual assault in American society. Since 2002 abuse has been rising amid signs of complacency by Church leaders, and today is comparable to the early 1970s. The share of homosexual men in the priesthood rose from twice that of the general population in the 1950s to eight times the general population in the 1980s. This trend was strongly correlated with increasing child sex abuse. A quarter of priests ordained in the late 1960s report the existence of a homosexual subculture in their seminary, rising to over half of priests ordained in the 1980s. This trend was also strongly correlated with increasing child sex abuse. Four out of five victims over age seven were boys; only one in five were girls. Ease of access to boys relative to girls accounts for about one fifth of this disparity. The number of homosexual priests accounts for the remaining four fifths. And perhaps the most chilling conclusion of Sullin’s research is this:
Estimates from these findings predict that, had the proportion of homosexual priests remained at the 1950s level, at least 12,000 fewer children, mostly boys, would have suffered abuse.
And why did teh gay seek priesthood? It was the only place homosexuals – at the time beaten on as the lowest of the low – could find respect, power and authority. Power, friends.
>First, chu get deh ordination, >then, chu get deh respect, >then, chu get deh sexy times with "willing" boys.
The catholic emphasis on celibacy is the root cause of the sex abuse crisis.
The reason why so many priests are homosexual is because homosexual men end up fitting the mold for priesthood better.
Boys who are active, assertive, non studious, confident, and of course, sexual, are considered problematic and non holy and unsuitable for the clergy. Meanwhile, boys who are submissive, obedient, sensitive, non confrontational and asexual are considered perfect Christians and potential future priests.
These are the type of men that are accepted into the seminary and it is no surprise that these nebbish men end up developing same sex attractions.
The problem is innate in Catholicism. For Catholics, boys acting like boys is considered a problem. It is considered distasteful. They want to stamp out any agressiveness or sexuality in boys. The ideal male is one that acts female in their religion. So it is only the effeminate that excel in religious life and the clergy.
You can say that there is some hidden connected "lavander mafia" out there that has been operating for a century and no one knows about it. Or you can face the unpleasant, frank truth that there is some thing fundamentally wrong with the way catholicism views masculinity and sexuality

You're not blaming the Catholic Church, you're blaming Jesus Christ. If Jesus Christ had acted "like a boy", and was not in a state of perfect purity throughout His life and ministry and Resurrection, Celibacy probably wouldn't be considered such a high thing…
Perhaps, you can take your complaint to Christ?

Jesus Christ is God.

There are MANY who do not recognize their meme theology
If Jesus Christ is God why didn't he kill anyone? He surely didn't refrain form doing so as the Holy Spirit or the Father(See: Book of Acts, Revelations)

In retrospect, this is worded poorly.

Celibacy was both recommended by Our Lord and St. Paul. You impute problems to the Church that have as their source the surrounding, debased culture of sexual liberation and death.
The actual virtues in question are chastity and humility, which are incumbent on all men, not only the clergy. On the other hand, effeminacy has always been considered a vice:
The problem is with the West, certainly not the Church, who has to make do with the sorry examples of men available to her at present.
Since chastity and celibacy are at base modes of sexual repression, and since the only existing counterforce is the program of sexual liberation of the western culture at large, then we can safely lay the blame for the problem on the West and not the Church.
I fit that description pretty well, but I'm into women. There are also plenty of fags who fit the former description. How in the winnie the pooh can anyone delude themselves into believing fags aren't hyper-sexual horn dogs? Are you winnie the pooh retarded? If you don't know what you're talking about, don't post.

And we must be as perfect as God.
St. Paul was celibate, do you think he was a child molestor?

If you know the background of the situation you can better understand some of the comments in this thread. Linked below is an hour long video but it is worth watching especially for those outside of the Catholic Church who don’t have any background in how some things operate.
