What in the everlasting fuck is it with modern websites?!

What in the everlasting fuck is it with modern websites?!

99% of frontend developers deserve to be stabbed, hanged, shot, dismembered and shitted on at this point.

Cookie warning is required by European law.

Even worse is when I need to look something up on a phone.

What you listed is just the tip of the fucking iceberg. It's things which you at least can see. There's at least an order of magnitude more botnet shit going on it the background (guess why "netbooks" from 8 years ago that are equipped with slowish Atom processors are lagged to shit and back when trying to cope with the """modern web"""). There's literally dozens of ways to track you by various means, at least one in two companies active on the internets is trying to do """big data""" and datamine lusers who fetch their content for as much info as technically possible.

You forgot:
and also:

And it's a fucking useless law because you never get the chance to not agree and they never tell you what the cookies do. That's like saying "by walking into my visual range you agree to getting stabbed" and using that as a legal defense.

For mobile Brave browser is the only partial solution. Has inbuilt adblock that works wonders.

Yeah, who would have thought that giving RCE power to a small cadre of web developers would let to them to abuse us? Lets keep using their shit but beg them to stop, that surely will change their behavior.

No, I really just wanted to declare my taxes and gtfo of here.
That one is lying, since I block all traffic to mozilla's sites. But it always pops up anyway, just to be annoying.

Attached: cookies.png (800x600, 90.72K)

Precisely because of that they made the GDPR law, which requires websites to give an option to not accept (and then honor Do Not Track by not creating any cookies at all), telling them which data they collect, why and how long; as well as giving an option to delete all data they have recorded of their users at any time.

DNS66 is a better solution because it blocks ads systemwide. Firefox Mobile has access to uBlock, so there's that.

That popup appears because of some retarded about:config flag you put. It's not supposed to appear more than once.
For what purpose? Firefox doesn't make any connections unless you enable Sync.

What is adaway and ublock origin on Firefox?

It did, there was traffic showing up in tcpdump, even though I never typed any URL in address bar (homepage was set to my home directory, not a website, so no trafffic at all should have existed).
The traffic stopped when I blackholed the domains in question in my local resolver.
Anyway I don't care enough to configure Firefox in any special way. It's a chore to use enough as it is, so I'm not gonna configure shit in a GUI. Someone else can waste time on it, I'll just block what I don't like. That's the only way to be sure anyway (settings can lie, bugs, etc.)

It's not even an advertisement it's just some gay video related to the wiki page. Who the hell thought that was a good user experience?

Feels good.

On your phone?

Slow piece of shit, that's what it is.

I disagree with this being a bad thing. In my opinion a big problem with personal computing in general right now is that every single god damn thing has to be in the browser. Client software is better because the service can be better integrated with the overall system and there can be any number of different clients available to suit different needs and wants. Web pages should be PAGES, not entire programs jury rigged into a system that was never meant to be used that way. Cloud services are one thing but this obsession with everything being in the web browser needs to stop.

No, on my laptop. Duh. How would even connect to the internet on a phone? You'd need to have one of those modern smart pieces of shit for that.

Worst part is adblockers miss a lot of these

All these things are designed to make money, so the culprit is capitalism.

Do you remember page hit counters on 90's geocities pages?
Das rite, third party tracking botnet. Why haven't you complained about them earlier, huh gramps? You dumbfuck Gen-X are responsible for what modern technology is today.

Well on mobile you got your wish, now everything is in Apps that you have to download. Want to check the weather real quick? Nope, need an app that required access to your bowel movements to give you a simple number.

Everything can be done in a browser these days, it's easier to draw GUis in single browser framework that 10 different toolkits for 4 OSes.

Get a look outside your window and install a thermometer, sperg.

Is this board unironically infested with phoneposters now?

The entire website is. Try not to think about it too much, you'll fall into deep depression.

Want to call a friend ?
Go outside and talk to him face to face.

What am I supposed to do when I'm on my work, 5 miles away from the nearest computer connected to the internet?

Want to buy your Chinese laptop?
Go to the manufacturer in China, load it into your truck, and drive back home.

uMatrix

Weather outside your window is an equivalent of a friend sitting in next room.

...

MAKE IT FUCKING STOP! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been on imageboards since at least 2009 and if I'm in bed or away from my PC, then I'm going to browse from whatever is handy.

Try Yuzu Browser. Adblocking, userscripts, pattern match URLs to change JavaScript/useragent/cookie settings, import/export bookmarks as HTML so you're not locked in to a Sync service, and a customizable interface. Also on github.

This, but it's not that I want everyone to move to "apps" - what I really want is for this shit to never have happened in the first place. I miss when everything wasn't so fucking centralized. Sure, if somebody wanted to put videos out there on the web, why not? But put it on your own website, not on fucking jewtube.

Yeah, even cookiemonster and fanboy's annoyances list fail a lot. Frontend homos keep pushing shit faster than lists update.

Those things didn't work in Lynx, and back then most pages were functional in Lynx.

This is the world you chose.

Here are the exceptions. Sensible non-tracking cookies don't need the warning.

Attached: cookies.png (764x242, 16.09K)

I bricked all my pooters tbh. I gotta post somehow while I'm reinstalling gentoo.

At least it's not flash

-t. every website on the web

Errrr I what I meant to say is we use cookies to improve the service for you, and nothing else :^)

so make a complaint to the government instead of making your website into a retarded piece of shit with the most placebo warning message ever created

Nothing is stopping your from moving to a commune and trying your little experiment again. In the meantime,

It's a useless law because it doesn't even explain any real problem. cookies do not imply tracking. Lack of cookies do not imply lack of tracking. Whether a site uses cookies is utterly meaningless and only an imaginary symbolic concept for normalfag goyim to argue about with each other. Also it doesn't make sense when being viewed users where the law doesn't apply.

lol no

How do cookies track users if literally every browser has DOM sandboxing and protection from cross-site reference forgeries. Don't tell me they "track" you using their website, because in the era of ipv6 they can see every user's address distinctively and just log all http requests for analytics.

...

You're naïvely assuming the stated rationale for this law has anything to do with actual reasons for it.

Normalfag audience.

Third-party cookies, mate. A tracker can set a cookie on one website and then read it on another.

Yeah, and that's how it SHOULD be. Just because it's called an "app" doesn't make it any less correct and proper and right. General purpose web browsers are not UNIX. Executing code in a general purpose web browser is an abomination, since the entire purpose of the web is documents and documents are not code.

Firefox has profile sandboxes to prevent that. Coincidentally, these are obscured and hidden from ordinary user.

this is the most retarded bait i've ever seen
1. your stupid browser "security" technologies of the week aren't stopping shit
2. cookies are one of several million ways to track users, so it doesn't even matter what "advanced cookie policies" are ever implemented
3. nobody uses ipv6
4. even on ipv4 the IP address can be used to track people with a large degree of success in practice

It's literally new browser instance with snapshot/clear profile made for every new website.
Very much true, my good sir. There is absolutely no way to battle first-party js trackers, and if you use NoScript, you stick from the crowd when visiting normie websites, i.e anywhere but Zig Forums boards on deepweb sites like 8gag.
Maybe in your 3rd world shithole, Daquan.
True, but commercial VPNs as extra proxy after Tor exits ensure you stay blend with the crowd.

You forgot

I want to correct just one thing:
It doesn't as long as no one checks it. I don't think they have automatization in place for that.
And less cancer is less cancer.
It's like saying: "I can see that you don't have cancer". While that may be true, it doesn't prove anything and there are a lot of people who don't have cancer either even in a cancer clinic.

Forget it.

...

The whole "apps" thing is where the web went full retard. Most sites don't need to be a browser "app". I used to buy stuff on ebay just fine without javascript. They simply did all the work on the server-side, using standard web forms on the client. Then they decided to make it more fancy and complicated, and that's where it all went to hell.

Prime example. Web form is enough to select pizza/toppings and put in your credit card info. It's a simple order and not rocket science. I personally wrote a much more intricate ecommerce web software in the early 2000's, with a whole lot more details needed and shit going on in the background than a fucking pizza. I did it all with plain HTML. I even tested my shit in Lynx, just to be sure.

every one of your points is retarded, shut the fuck up.

oh no...

Javascript and datamining.

Exactly why its CORRECT for these "apps" to be standalone installable programs and software instead of some frankenstein junkheap of HTML and JS frameworks that's interpreted by your increasingly bloated and cancerous "web browser".

But that is what modern apps are, they just bundle a copy of chrome.

Attached: nonfree.jpg (10000x5625, 2.25M)

What isn't it with modern websites?

As always, it's because of normalfags and their shit technology and lack of standards and morals.

Well, this guy is mostly right. In a society that puts money first, you're going to have garbage technology, because selling shit that appeals to the masses will always make more money in a rich society than selling quality. Capitalism is fucking trash, inherently, even though it's still necessary. It only works well when people realize that being rich isn't necessary and that money isn't important, or when people simply can't afford to waste money on shitty material possessions that they don't need.

Poverty would solve all of the world's current problems, from immigration to consumerism to the government and corporations trying to control everything. It would all be instantly solved if the economy collapsed. The only thing that I want, politically, is for that to happen. I want everyone to be poor, struggling to survive, and for all economies and governments to implode so we can build something more rational and less wasteful, and actually give a shit about quality again. Everyone should have a small amount of resources, and smart people should gain the advantage by using their resources more efficiently.

How would Skynet establish communism otherwise?

Why would they build something rational? It's not like anybody learned anything. That's why market bubbles keep happening, it's only the details that change.

clients demand this shit. developers just put it there because that's what you've got to do to make money.

most web devs don't have any say in the look/feel of the website, they get told what to do via the marketing department.

...

You know what else is functional in Lynx? Motherfucking gopher. Gopher is fully functional in Lynx. It's like information heaven.

Running uMatrix really shows you the disgusting underbelly of the web. Maybe it should be called uMatryoshka because of how often a site only works after you've approved a thing that triggers another thing that triggers another thing that triggers another that triggers another thing, and only after you have approved all of these (across many different domains) does the site work well enough.

The real question is how do we block those annoying neo-popups?

One thing that helps is to have another app store installed (F-droid) and NEVER set a default association with the app store intent. It is inconvenient when you actually want to link to the app store, but it prevents websites from automatically opening the Play store.
Still doesn't de-shittify the web, though. That might take some beatings...

T H I S
H
I
S

Also functionality is more and more often intertwined with botnet shit, so that the former breaks if the latter is blocked.

I'm sure popup blockers block them these days. I just turn off JS and most of the useful web works for me anyway. No need for any browser addons (bloat).

Yes. Then you get to see what was talking about.

Skeuomorphism
Websites that looked like a document not like an 'app'
Websites not hogging 100% of my cpu because shitty unoptimized javascript
Websites not having to download 50MB of javascript
A 64K gprs mobile connection being enough to browse
100MB of mobile data lasting for the entire month
Web browsers not taking up half the ram on your system
Not having to zoom out every website because i dont have a 4K super HD® display
Ad blocking being easy
Websites with dark themes
Media not being 1984'ed by femminists communists etc
Freedom of speech
CRTs
Having to actually have basic technical knowledge to use a computer/the internet
Users knowing what a router is
Forums having some kind of useful discussion
Content not being monopolized by companies to squeeze every penny out of everything
Independent websites
Using clients instead of shitty hacked-together JS
Web browsers not sending every page in your history as a 'referrer'
Websites without cuckbook buttons
RSS feeds
Actually fun videogames
No "buy this" "buy that" "expansion pack" "dlc" "in app purchase" "microtransacction" "pay2win" "gabe newell suck my dick"
Wikipedia not being a propaganda machine
90% of traffic not going to 6 websites
Being able to find quality communities not russian-only or japanese-only

You forget about Noscript, Request Policy Continiued, UBlock origin, it's helper for uM-x.

None of this has anything to do with skeuomorphism.

When I do frontend, I try to steer my employers away from this shit as often as possible.
Don't shoot all of us. Some of us are fighting the good fight.
The alternative is to walk away and let the world go to shit even faster. I'm not prepared for that yet.

The reason is simple: why develop software you have to port if you can develop write-once, deploy everywhere bloated software targeting browsers?

This
is the problem. When the profit motive becomes unhinged from your goal (which happens in 90% of the cases for anything commercial), you get shit.

Money is a direct measurement of one thing: do you provide product and service that people are willing to pay for or use and do it in sustainable manner so that you don't go bancrupt in process? If not, no money. If yes, money. Hardly a problem. If anything this frontend webdev shit going on currently doesn't help that goal at all. All the web services on solid footing rarely if ever spam you with shit (think: Github, Azure, AWS, Google, Bing, Crunchy, Viki, MAL, Softpedia...)

Dumb boomers could not comprehend the computing paradigm, so programmers had to mimic the meatspace for them
Dumb boomers could not comprehend the computing paradigm, so programmers had to mimic the meatspace for them with shit like diskette for save button and home icon for start page
Block js mining hosts and be sure, your browser chooses the right codecs when playing videos. it's not their fault you have a decade-old computer that demands 5GiB 8-bit h264 video instead of optimized 700MiB HEVC
Show me one. Modern websites are optimized for phoneposters and users in Africa or Pajeetistan, they have sub-dialup speeds there
Shrink your window to turn on the mobile view
Still viable
Stop using Chrome
Show an example. Responsive grid looks good on all standard window sizes, even on XGA
Add domains to your hosts file
S P A C E background and yellow font is not a "dark theme". Most mid-2000's business websites had white background and tacky 3d buttons for skeumorphism, see above
Non-argument, USSR disbanded itself with help of US democracy and international jewry in 1991
There is freedom of speech, use mediums that technically make censorship unfeasible (Freenet, i2p)
Eyestrain, nigger
You still have to. Web is not whole Internet and never was.
Those boxes your ISP gives out for free are actually not just routers, they are Ethernet switch + router + DOCSIS/ADSL modem/PON ONT + 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/d/j access point and sometimes ftp-based NAS
Stop shitposting and start one
Your bain Mandela'd the dotcom bubble?
Host your own and be independent
Use your clients, m8. Image/webboards have been a JS-ridden clusterfuck since 90's. Fucking kusaba or whatever first engines were called didn't even display post replies in plain html, blazechan does it for free.
Proofs or didn't happen
You're using wrong websites and then complain about them
Still strong, but unfortunately, highly inefficient because of XML
You're just getting older, gramps. If those games were fun and great, you can still play them today, it's not like you played every game out there, right?
Okay, back to >>>/v/, child
Stop reading wikipedia in cuck languages (English, German), see edit history for vital article changes
FREE MARKET
Woah really shows the power of Anglosphere!

The "apps" are the website hard coded in chrome.

Jesus christ you faggots not every app is built in electron.

You mean "referer" :^)
network.http.sendRefererHeader;0
also: No playing video games to unlock skins instead of to play the game (lol I'm not playing this mode because it doesn't give me any points XD)

no you don't even remotely require web to make your code portable. and webshit has tons of portability issues just as well as any other cross platform solution (such as C or Java)

you're right, it should be called niggermorphism

kill yourself you stupid redditor. all your points are retarded as fuck
this is not even remotely the reason the web is slow. any platform where 99% of the media is running a bunch of shitcode made by pajeets as well as expensive bullshit like CSS 123.0 is guaranteed to fuck your CPU
shut the fuck up. a 10 year old computer is 2008, which is still very fast. even an 18 year old computer is suitable for most tasks aside from high graphics video games. the issue has nothing at all to do with video. go on the new reddit for example, you will not be able to browser it on anything but high end hardware
false. and i'm not going to look for an example because if I turned on JS and started opening pages it would literally take 30 minutes of opening pages, watching my browser freeze, waiting 10 seconds for devtools to open so i can see the profiling information, etc
that will work on 1 in N (20? 200?) websites
shut the fuck up
shut the fuck up
no, the refresh rate being higher than something like 85Hz prevents this for most people. also calculator screens have no eye strain because they are sample-and-hold, but that's unsuitable for showing animation (everything will be blurred). the solution to this is what new screens are doing - motion blur reduction (ULMB, ELMB, etc) - which brings back flicker, and the solution once again is to go high Hz: most of them only work at 120Hz or higher
the new "feminist" movement and any type of recent "equality" movement is just communism. they claim whites and people without gender modifications are the new kulaks. they (more or less, we haven't seen much violent examples yet aside from the BLM guy who sniped a bunch of white cops) want to engage in class struggle and purge people of selected kulak classes. of course this movement is retarded so i'll be surprised if it ever takes off beyond faggots censoring stuff online because it contains words they don't like
you don't seem to understand the problem
kill yourself
kill yourself

The latter 4 exist because of the devs' bosses. Stab them instead if you hate that stuff so much.

...

I refuse to open any browser without uMatrix. Without it you have no clue what's going on with the internet and how you're connecting to facebook/google/amazon/cloudflare/mixpanel/microsoft on nearly every fucking bloated js to display text site. Every other "muh privacy" extension is a fucking joke and placebo.

Or you could just block them with unbound, and use Links. The *best* solution is to stop using the web, opting for Lynx + gopher.

Attached: unbound.png (1024x768, 836.46K)

Or block EVERYTHING instead of getting aids from one of the thousands of alternative addresses they use that I didn't block.

The reason I piped the output of cat to wc was to show that I am indeed blocking pretty much every malicious domain. I have a script that fetches this weekly:
raw.githubusercontent.com/StevenBlack/hosts/master/alternates/fakenews-gambling-porn-social/hosts
It then uses sed and awk to change it to the syntax unbound recognizes.

802.11a/b/g/n/ac/d/j
