What is capitalism?
What is capitalism?
On its very core is when the means of production (factories, farms space to offer services) are privately own and ran for profit.
Things like violence colonialism and false social consciences (nationalism, religion etc) are consequences of the contradictions of capitalism as capitalism tries to fulfill everyone needs but creates the same problems that provokes those needs in order to remind profitable.
Capitalism is the economic system wherein production is accomplished by the Industrial Capitalist process:
-Money (capital) is first exchanged for tools, land, raw materials, etc.
-Workers are then paid a wage in order to transform these things into a commodity.
-This commodity is then exchanged for more money (capital) than the capitalist started with.
Importantly, this arrangement can occur both in a private-market economy or a centrally-planned state-run economy. Capitalism is not defined by the presence or absence or markets, nor whether the capitalist is a private entrepreneur or a state bureaucrat.

A mode of production characterised by:
1) private property (absentee ownership - wage labour - class society)
2) production for exchange (generalised commodity production)
The grand majority of humanity today lives within the global capitalist system. It was preceded by feodalism, and will be replaced as the dominant mode of production by either socialism or barbarism.
The only actual example of capitalism actually killing anyone and it was only 12 people compared to socialism's
Please, do enlighten us. What is your "capitalism?" We need a laugh.
…the dust bowl, blackwater, the slave trade, Tea Company assaults on most of the earth's surface, Triangle Shirtwaist fire…
Thanks for repudiating ownership as a tenet of capitalism, though, which would create borders of a monopoly of one's exercise, hence, "no true capitalism."
Why do you think you are entitled to cherry-pick what capitalism means to you but would insinuate the deaths caused people like Pol Pot, smallpox and heart attacks to "socialism"? Flawless logic there.
A miserable little pile of commodities.
>The only actual example of capitalism actually killing anyone and it was only 12 people compared to socialism's
Afraid not. Not if you want a meaningful definition of capitalism anyway. If you define capitalism by markets or private ownership then capitalism is an immortal system that's existed throughout human history.
Capitalism is when the bourgeoisie does stuff.
And the more stuff the bourgeoisie do the capitalister it is.
Pol Pot is undeniably a communist
The highest form of commodity production.
"Communism is when you actively cooperate with the CIA and commit genocide" - Das Kapital, vol. 2
