Post WIP's on Vocaroo*. You may NOT link to Soundclouds, Bandcamp - there are dedicated threads for posting them and anything resembling self promotion will result in bad feedback and a three day ban from Zig Forums.

The state of discussion about all music making and audio topics is terrible here on Zig Forums, and we definitely need a dedicated board.
Here's the full argument for it:

If you like the idea, let Zig Forums know @ 4channel.org/feedback (under Board Suggestion)

In the meantime check out our /prod/ board:

*You can also upload your tracks directly to the feedback thread on filtered.fm and link them here.
On top of the easy free hosting you get feedback on both sites.

Anyone know a good VST/Sample Library/Kontakt Library for Double Bass (Also known as Bass, upright bass, string bass, acoustic bass, acoustic string bass, contrabass, contrabass viol, bass viol, bass violin, standup bass, bull fiddle, doghouse bass and bass fiddle) ?

ye

You can just search for this sort of thing on youtube. Plugins and sample libraries always showcase their products with videos

Ample Bass Upright or Trilian
Trilian is 10x the size though but there's a torrent available for it on audioz

my new motherboard has obnoxiously high bass, what's a cheap USB soundcard with a "normal" sound profile?

Should a midi keyboard have weighted keys?

depends

depends
if you wanna play stuff like keyscape/addictive keys on it and get authentic piano response then yes i'd say so.
but at the same time everyone says that arturia keystep, while not weighted feels incredibly amazing to play and i've seen people use that for those libraries too.
if you have zero ability at the keys and you just need them as buttons you push then it doesn't matter.

I've been struggling with producing for a couple of months now but finally got over the hole of wanting to quit. Problem is I don't know how to produce for my genre "Punk/Trap Metal". I have to try and distort/edit everything I make to try and stay on base but I'm not sure if it sounds good.
Here's my latest example. I would appreciate any feedback: voca.ro/1h5qXeeLV03p

Anons, how well does physical dexterity on a MIDI translate to an actual acoustic upright piano / Digital piano with Graded hammer action keys ?
I presently own a Nektar GX61 in which I'm learning the basics of theory and trying to cover a few songs. How much of a difference will it be when I switch from the nektar MIDI to a piano with authentic key action ? Will I have to relearn everything ? Should I invest any time at all in increasing my physical dextirity or just stick to theory for the moment until I actually manage to get a piano ?
pic for attention pls forgive

I'm very confused by the linked vocaroo, maybe post a yt link of an example of the genre? Maybe its my ignorance but the vocaroo doesn't sound anything like I understand punk / trap metal to be.

That's what I mean. It sounds nothing like it. I'm able to make stuff but none of it for my genre.
The first half is the normal sound i made and the last couple seconds are the edited version.
Its like a mental blockage to do it.

Only for playing sample packs of instruments with weighted keys.

I just bought the cheapest one. I will learn piano on a real piano

It's all about understanding and applying fundamentals. Take some of your favorites in the genre, sit down and analyze them, like reaaaally analyze them, pull up a notepad and list what makes the song how it is and why. Do that for a few, then take the common denominators and include them in what you make. Remember, there's no shame in taking hefty inspiration, especially if it's just to get a foothold of a genre.

idk that controller so i don't know what kinds of keys it has, but my piano at home has fully weighted keys (of course) that are quite heavy, and whenever i go to my piano lessons it takes me a couple of minutes to get used to the upright piano there because the keys feel lighter and i have to use way less force to get them to sound very loud which fucks me up every time because i have serious trouble playing pp, p or even mp on it cause i'm used to being able to hit the keys with a bit more strength.
i have a midi controller that i use for my DAW and it's a novation impulse 61 and the keys feel like a joke in comparison but they're playable, except for the black keys which don't play well at all when i have to hit them in the upper 50% of their body length as you will often have to do when playing extended chords.

are you sure it's the synth's fault

whose fault would it be? mine because i'm magnetic or charged with electricity and cause the synth to fuck up?
inb4 >m-maybe your patches are just bad and that's why!

yeah i just gave up on this conversation

Different user, but I've honestly never seen those complaints before, and it seems like it would be a very common and well-known issue (not to mention a major talking point in the analog-digital debate). I dunno...sometimes the MIDI connection with my Microfreak messes up and gives the illusion of crackling, but I can fix that by disarming the MIDI track in my DAW. It could potentially be a lot of things depending on how you used/demoed them.

Granted I've never tried either of those synths, but you know how people like to bitch about the OP-1's price. Seems like that would be their main gripe. Not trying to blame you or anything.

good ideas. glad you decided to stick with it, user. i think it's worth spending more time on the ideas because they're not in context. it's like parmesean without the pasta.

(for posterity xd)

you can actually find that gripe about the OP-1 online but for some reason not many people talk about it. it's definitely documented though if you look through reddit's op1 forum history for example

?
i'm not retarded and new to synths, i wouldn't accidentally program a synth patch that sounds like the fucking thing can't actually handle it. we're talking about audio dropouts/glitches/whatever you might want to call them.

>?

Yeah I don't get why you're trying to imply I can't read or something, cause I completely get what you're trying to say. Now fuck off and don't reply to me anymore

Isn't that the poo in loo synth? You get what you pay for I guess.

you sound bitter for some reason, not sure why

>You get what you pay for I guess.
it's like 1300 bucks though

I'm not bitter, I'm annoyed and I'm getting angry too now (I'm really in touch with my emotions)

don't know why
you never elaborated on your "what if it's not the synth" point

should I upgrade my monitors? I have these for years

hows my synth?

It's not a point, it's a question to troubleshoot your problem. But I saw that trying to help you was going to be swimming upstream so nah

anybody else have a hard time watching pensado
stuttering all over the place, breathing heavy, and barely making any sense but his mixes do sound good

That's pretty cheap for a 49+ key polysynth.

>you can actually find that gripe about the OP-1 online
I haven't looked much into it because of the insane price honestly, so I stand corrected

Hes an old guy, give him a break

i tried it out at a store
i tried out different patches
the problem only occured on the complex ones
there's nothing to troubleshoot really. also, i'm not there anymore.

>KRK
Yes.

I've got Yamaha HS series, and I really like them. Good response and nice and neutral. You'll probably listen to your old tracks and go "Fuck, the mix is terrible" on them, which is good.

its kinda cool maybe a bit random but im likin that bass and that bass line man

true true and he is great at what he does
