Why isn't Latin American music popular on Zig Forums? Not much threads on them besides Bossa Nova.
So many genres came from here, there's probably a good one that you'll appreciate.
Check these out: Samba, Choro, Salsa, Son Cubano, Cumbia, Champeta, Chichia, Merengue, Bullerengue, Baião, Funk Carioca, Maxixe, Coco, Fandango, Vallenato, Moda, Brega, Technobrega, Guitarrada, Repente, Bossa Nova, Jongo, Capoeira, Congada tango, vallenato, música llanera, bolero,

I think they got pretty popular cause of that Noisey video, they are great whatever, OP, isn't half of the genres you mentioned Brazilian stuff? great shit btw, but I think we people with hispanic or luso roots are going to be more prone to know this stuff, I'm Spanish and I know some hard salsa and mpb thanks to my father (Galicia owes a lot to South America culture and vice versa cause of the massive 30's emigration, and some latino legends played live shows here), also Spanish music is very underrated just like Spanish literature, cause Latino culture overshadows it
>Why isn't Latin American music popular on Zig Forums?
Gringos can't understand the lyrics. LATAM posters mostly ignore the new music scene from their own countries and always post the same shit from the 60s/70s.
Like we get it, Clube da Esquina is nice, but maybe try exploring new stuff.
a few weeks after finding out about los saicos i wa recommended the noisey video but never watched it becaue the key thing people talking about who created punk forget is that punk is more of a movement than a specific sound or ethos, and yet los saicos are not even the first example of it
Peruvian-born here, most of the Latin American genres aren't very great and some are outright horrible. Even when they're doing things like pop and rock they often suck. There's still a handful of fantastic bands and artists though. Pic related is a really good album from Peru everyone here sleeps on.

its trash by and large....
Seconded.
I for one really like MC Vitinho, especially this song of his about becoming famous for robbing tourists.

yeah, exactly, is like Les rallizes denudes, they were pioneers and all of that, but do you really think Flipper and any other first wave noise rock band were listening to them, some literal who nips? I don't think so, they just thought "man these Chrome guys are cool" and voila noise rock, punk is born when the punk subculture is born if we go down an influence timeline we assume some early garage and schizo british invasion bands are the first punks

Also another thing I forgot to mention is that people like OP wanna talk about Latin American music while approaching it around things that are "purely" Latin American genres and that relegates a lot of modern LATAM music to the side. When people talk about NA/EU music they don't talk only about localized genres such as NYC No Wave, Midwest Emo et cetera
iconic peruvian terrorists.
My problem with the current LatAm scene is that mainstream music is trash because it's horribly saturated with commercial reggeton and hip-hop and all that trash, so it's very low quality. Then you have the indie scene which is mostly rich kids messing around with instruments and fl studio, leading us again to more low effort music that could've been done by a suburban american/european teenager but in spanish/portuguese (sometimes not even that).
Obviously I'm not saying all music is bad, but there's a dumpster you have to swim in to find the good stuff.
That's cause Latin America is a huge dance party and Zig Forums is only tall awkward white boys that can't move hips if it mean their life. Explains why this whole board is obsessed with hip hop as if it's the greatest thing to exist.

South American poetry is objetively superior and if most spanish-speakers already have a hard time grasping it, Am*ricans even more so.
Porque la mayoría de imbéciles acá no está familiarizado con la escena musical de su país aparte del pop y el trap que todo el mundo escucha.
Acá hablan de la música latina como si ello solo incluyese reggaeton, salsa, merengue y trap
I don't give a shit about the music from my country desu.

I wonder what could possibly have to do poetry with music? gee, that's a head-scratcher.

Try Lido Pimienta, she's a fantastic voice, and her sound is more Cumbia than anything. I wish Lafourcade was as innovative as this girl.

I have a hard time finding new latam music on the styles you mention. I need to go out of my way to find it, and that's cool, I got to know a couple of interesting bands doing Cumbia, Vallenato, and even Jarana, traditional stuff from Mexico.
But I don't know of a place that follows new artists, I literally go to bars once in a while and find shit. Obviously, I can't do that right now, so that hurts it a little as well.
>doesnt mention mariachi, tejano, cha cha cha, descarga, rumba, calypso, guaracha, mambo, j-fusion
Ases Falsos (Fake Aces) are great, and their last two albums are based:
Chocadito (A Little Bit Crashed)
Tacto (Touch) (pic. related).
reminder that marcos valle is still making great catchy and innovative music at his 80s. check out his last "cinzento"
All hail Deodato
