A truly Masterpiece.
Genuinely funny, even if it did usher in a whole decade of "lol randum XD" humor.
Excellent show. The characters are funny, the world is interesting & detailed, and it wasnt afraid to be dark / pessimistic / satirical which set it apart.
The "penguin of d00m" type humor is actually a pretty small part of the show and got exaggerated by 12 year-old fans online.
It’s still very good. Funny, characters are great, voice-acting is great, worldbuilding is pretty cool, unique art style. I really like the comics and ETF as well.
I'm sad the comics are switching tons quarterly format but I'm sure they will stay good. Issue 50 was really cool.
Some dialogues are among the best of the last 20 years in cartoon history, the comedy timing is also great and the cast is unlikable in an endearing way.
On the other hand, I find the art style unappealing, too "pointy" and "edgy" an too many greys in the palette scheme...
One of the best western animated shows from the century, no doubt
Very good. Makes me nostalgic for my spork-holding days.
New movie was excellent.
It was so shit that it was overshadowed by Fairly Oddparents. Let that sink in.
So it’s the John Carpenter’s The Thing of cartoons
Steve Ressel doesn't get enough credit. Truly a great director. Shame he left the animation industry after Zim
Only cartoon I know of that did absurdism humor perfectly. Was also a pretty original and creative show that did a lot of things that weren't really done before, especially the main premise. Zim was my favorite character.
Yet one is a beloved cult classic, while the other ended up as a joke
This show contributed to creating an entire generation of mall goths so I approve. I dated a cute goth latina who was obsessed with it when I was in college.
The comic sucks.
The art style is a million times better than most shows today.
Didn´t say it is "bad", a grim and ugly style (especially with the dated CGI) fits perfectly with its cynical universe.
But, let´s admit it; an art style based in avoid any circumference and then proceed to paint it in pale green, blood red, different shades of greys and purples will always gonna be a niche one. That´s the reason it´s never catched with the mainstream kids when it originally aired.
really good all around, but I kinda grew out episode to episode animated sitcom-ish shows. not my cup of tea anymore but it's great.
Professor Membrane is the best character.
.....
Zim is the very definition of a cool show. The reason it's so cool is because it's extremely agressive and even opressive in its atmosphere, dialogue, art style, color scheme and soundtrack. You don't get that feeling from other kids cartoons
Reminder that had Zim been cancelled one day later, we'd gotten 2 more eps. Here are the scripts for those who care to read them. Were they a big loss ? zim.fandom.com
Would have been nice to see Minimoose’s formal debut in the series.
I hate when shows have unproduced episodes that already have the scrips and storyboards done. Like BROS! JUST ANIMATE THAT SHIT!
It makes me MAD! Grrrrr!!!!
The Netflix special was based.
Any thoughts on them ? The Poonchy ep seemed kinda average imo, yet Nubs of Doom seemed really funny
I’m in the same boat, user. Poonchy seemed ok, Nubs of Doom is pretty funny.
I wonder if Nick would've approved of Poonchy ep, since it was about that kid using that superlaser to destroy the neighborhood with explosions, and the media and army to show up. Reminder that 9/11 was part of the reason they cancelled it in January 2002
I like seeing Zim cry. Is that so wrong?
I'd have definitely switched Mortos for Nubs of Doom. It's a better script
