When will Lovecraft reach the mainstream?

About 40 years ago my dude, literally every modern scifi/fantasy/horror author is influenced by Lovecraft

"Lovecraftian" is already a really common word used when talking about fictional horror. He's pretty mainstream.

When did it not???

Like all of his career? And also now normies only know about muh tentacles and Lol Cthulhu but there's isn't any actual mainstream adaptation of his shit

The problem is that the elements of the work are actually more fun to use than the works themselves. There’s only so much you can milk what are essentially horror stories that influenced other horror stories and are likely to have twists and turns and scares people see from a mile away. It’s easy to shove in ‘ah love craft monster’ at certain parts of a film.

there's also the fact that the pop culture version of lovecraft has eclipsed the real thing so much that when people think of him they only picture the fish people and weird aliens when that was only one part of his body of work.
If you made a 1:1 adaptation of say, the dunwich horror audiences would bitch about how unfaithful it is because there is no Cthulhu and the monster dies gets defeated by ordinary humans.

I dunno man, the recent adaptation of Color Out of Space was pretty good and faithful within reason. The director is even doing DH next.

COoS was just a worse Annihilation, which is a shame, because Annihilation was basically an adaptation of COoS.

Nigga are you serious? Stephen King was heavily inspired by him and even made Nyarlothep get camoes at his books, Alan Moore wrote lovecraftian comics, Star Wars had a comic about Cthulhu waking up and destroying a part the Galatic Empire for fun, Marvel made the lovecraftian gods one of the main villains, South Park had an entire episode about Cthulhu, Simpsons had a Cthulhu scene,SCP universe cosmology is lovecraftian, FUCKING ZALGO MEME, adventure time lore was around a necronomicon rip off

>“Lovecraft. . . opened the way for me, as he had done for others before me.... it is his shadow, so long and gaunt, and his eyes, so dark and puritanical, which overlie almost all of the important horror fiction that has come since.” Stephen King

Providence is Moore's best work

If anything I wish it was LESS mainstream. I'm tired of smug zoomers pointing out that Lovecraft was a racist. It's the new "John Lennon was an asshole".

John Lennon beat Yoko Ono? That's why she screamed like a banshee all the time?

No, he beat her to shut her up.

Lovecraft for normalfags is so incredibly flanderized it's genuinely frightening

>yfw the true unfathomable horror was society

I named my cat nigger too shes white

Is it bad I want a Disney movie about the mytho creatures?

>the recent adaptation of Color Out of Space was pretty good
If you like gay colors.

Also, John Carpenter successfully homaged him, twice.

Yes, it's a sing of mental illness.

>wrote a racist poem
>his cat had a racist name
>liked Nazism
>b-but that doesn't mean he was racist!
kek

>>liked Nazism
lovecraft married a jew. He might have been a huge racist but he never called for exterminating other groups like the nazis did.

Is pretty mainstream. Neonomicon was the worst Alan Moore thing I've read yet though.

It feels like memes or homages to him are more mainstream than his actual work

Let's also not forget that the half of Jeffery Combs' career that isn't Star Trek is Lovecraft adaptations.

AHEM
Gentlemen, I apologise for the censorship, but the location demands it.
Let me recite a poem written by a renowned horror writer Howard Phillips Lovecraft.

On the Creation of Ni**ers

When, long ago, the gods created Earth
In Jove's fair image Man was shaped at birth.
The beasts for lesser parts were next designed;
Yet were they too remote from humankind.
To fill the gap, and join the rest to Man,
Th'Olympian host conceiv'd a clever plan.
A beast they wrought, in semi-human figure,
Filled it with vice, and called the thing a Ni**er.

Thank you, gentlemen, thank you. Now, let's go back to our meals.

Stardust the Super Wizard was lovecraft horror but better.
And Fletcher Hanks could beat Lovecraft in a fight (I could beat Lovecraft in a fight too)

The question is when William Hope Hodgson gets his due from the mainstream.

Dude was a huge influence on Lovecraft and one of his heroes, and his fiction is not only far scarier, but easier to adapt since less of it relies on “indescribable horrors”.

Everybody's a racist, faggot. This idea was even pushed hard by your liberal puppet masters who insist you're a racist especially if you deny that you're racist. That means you're EXTRA racist. Plus Lovecraft used it to great effect in his work and the larger themes of Xenophobia and terror are reflected in the other. I guarantee you feel that way when you watch a Chinese person eat a living animal, but you pretend like you're somehow better or progressive, hypocrite lol.

Fish piss

I want to know when Lovecraft will leave the mainstream. I'm sick to fucking death of every hack writer or artist throwing in Cthulhu and thinking they're clever for it.

with how faggots on here have been acting lately, i'd say it's already there.

they just made a movie about color out of space with nick cage.
