What is the purpose of criticizing a cartoon?

aka What is the purpose of Tom Preston?

What is the purpose of opinions?

you can and should keep your opinions to yourself. creatives don't need your input

Why is Alex Hirsch working on SU?

Close, but incorrect. Your criticisms can be used in a meaningful way, they can't be used in a timely way. Course correction is slow, but it's not impossible.

I'm the same logic even if episodes are made 5 minutes before they air, saying "I didnt like episode 6" is pointless because episode 6 already exists and cant be redone. why criticize anything ever? why ask for better next time? it's already on your plate, eat up jackass

it's so that the creator can ask themselves "what did I do in episode 6 that people disliked?" and learn from it for the future
and if you're incapable of doing that then frankly you're a shitty creator

This lack of hindsight is literally the cause of dobsons hilarious shortcomings.

any decent creative is open to creative feedback and learn to grow and improve for it.

who hurt you?

its fun and it helps you think critically for your own work.

like in general, or just in regard to this specific issue? I'm just passionate and autistic ok

I'll bet dollars to donuts that you criticise other peoples work all the time but get upset when anyone says anything about yours, and then you justify it with mental gymnastics.
>no no, when I was criticising I was just giving my opinion, but when *he* was criticising me he was saying it like it was a fact or something.

STOP SPREADING THIS BULLSHIT.
as an artist I do NOT need some random guy to explain my art to me. if I need feedback I ask it from my peers.

>takes 9 to 12 months on average
I know Dobson is retarded, but holy shit.
First of all, each production is different. The Simpsons do indeed take like 6 months, while South Park takes 6 days. Second, the average is not 9 to 12 fucking months, is he exceptional or something? I would these people even rest if every seasonal animated production took that long? It's 6-9 fucking WEEKS per episode, on average. And it's an assembly line, everything is done simultaneously by multiple departments. So criticism is extremely important, and they have enough time to implement said criticism once the work starts over next year.

>Young Justice season 1 is great
>Young Justice season 2 has good points but fans point out that it is heavily flawed with a bloated cast that ends underdeveloped, as well as teasing plot points that never go anywhere
About 6 years pass
>Young Justice season 3 comes out with again, a bunch of foreshadowing for a million different plot threads that never go anywhere

>Don’t ask questions. Just consume product and get excited for next product.

youd be wrong
I may be a retard but this retardation means I'm passionate about art and I'm happy to hear any kinda criticism
for once it also means someone noticed my work...

also
>30 minute cartoon episode
those are rare, and SU sure as fuck doesnt do them

>CRITICISM IS BAD REEEEE
Why are modern cartoonists so sensitive?

>SU
>30 min episodes

Ok but what about criticizing a comic strip artist whose strips take way less time? Is that okay?

Generation snowflake. Instead of learning to emotionally deal with the strains of life, they just learn to blame the left for everything.

at one point criticism turns into harassment and you requiring artists to bear with it contributes to making the internet an unsafe environment for millions of women like me.
shut the fuck up. the previous generations didn't have to deal with hundreds of people being able to fuck with you online

This doesn't make any sense. And most of the creators of shows like this fill frequently talk about future creative choices being influenced by fan and audience feedback. Just because they are working on the next season doesn't mean any feedback from the previous season is unusable.

>at one point criticism turns into harassment
not always. And it's only a problem when it turns into harassment.

Your peers are biased sources, and you still rely on non-peer audience reaction in order to sell your product. Fucking deal with it.

Lack of criticism is no protection, and no way makes you safer on the internet.

Regular exposure to criticism can make you better at handling the unsafe nature of the internet, but there's nothing that can actually stop the internet from harassing you.

no, I absolutely don't have to listen to you or whoever. I don't owe you shit and you're not entitled to my art.

I strongly suggest killing yourself

mans at least 30
has nothing to do with his gen, hes JUST a snowflake
are yall not familiar with Dobson

>I don't owe you shit and you're not entitled to my art
Enjoy not being able to sell your shitty art then.

that's a nice suggestion, user. whoever it is you're giving it too.
I'll put it right on the fridge for everyone to see.

Dobson get the fuck off my board.

>Generation snowflake. Instead of learning to emotionally deal with the strains of life, they just learn to blame the right for everything.
ftfy
If you want to get political about your shit opinions at least do it right. Zig Forums is all about blaming niggers and jews, /leftypol/ is all about blaming capitalists and straight white males.

I make better art when I don't listen to pissbabies like you.

>Criticise cartoon episode
>"Aksully, we're working on season 2"
Well, take some constructive criticism for season 3, there's always a future.

You're correct, you don't. And I don't owe you my money or eyeballs.

I also don't owe you my voice. I'll say what I want, thank you much, and if that's criticism of your work, you'll just have to deal. I don't control you, but you don't control me either.

If you and whomever you work for (if you're employed as an artist for a money-making corporate entity) are content with what views you can get from ignoring critics as much as possible, that's fine. If, however, you want to increase your viewership, criticism will help.

Do you? Or do you just think that because you're letting the stress get to your head?

Accepting criticism doesn't mean accepting it all at face value. It means trying to listen to and interpret the basis for the argument. If you're getting stressed out by it, take a step back and examine *why* you're so stressed, and *what* the real message trying to be conveyed to you is, and work from there.

They can go back and edit a cartoon. In fact, they do that. Fuck, the Sonic movie was complete and they went back and fixed the animation because people were pissed. Hell, CATS got edited and updated while in theaters.
What a fucking retard.

imagine taking a hammer and smashing his fingers

>implying that is normal practice
HU hu hu HAH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Get a load of this guy.

Did I ask for your opinion? Did I ?
I'll state this as clear as I can: I. Don't. Give. A. Shit.

For real though, 99% of critique on Zig Forums boils down to "why isn't this Watchmen/Sandman"

Listen to me, you little shit. Your peers' - or more accurately, your synchophants' - opinions mean fuck all. They will pamper you and tell you that your art is great because they don't want to disappoint their friend. Your art style will stagnate like Dobson has for the past twenty years, it may have even regressed a little because you can't handle feedback that's anything other than positive. The only possible routes with your petulant attitude are going from mediocre to mediocre at best, or mediocre to bad.

And you know what? It shows. It's already happened to you. You're too afraid of showing a doodle to some strangers on an anonymous Japanese imageboard about children's cartoons because you know that you'll probably get some actual fucking feedback, and that terrifies you. You're terrified of stepping out of your echo chamber and learning that your art, most likely, is shit. You're terrified of the very thought of having to improve.

But I could forgive all of this if you just weren't such a fucking twat about it. Stop being a little bitch, work on your art, and ask for critique from your intended audience. Even if it's weird scat porn, people that spank the monkey to it will have an opinion.

Work. On. Your. Fucking. Art.
