naturally, I thought it wasn't as bad as people say it was, and so I hs1 (which got worse and worse but it was still "ok")
then I made the mistake of reading all of hs2 and I completely regret it. there's so much shit wrong about it that it's hard to even begin. i feel like it spits in the face of hussies work(s) just by existing.

I was thinking of stopping reading after finishing act 5 but people say act 6 is where it should have ended and I'm confused. i really don't want to read about the new kids and trolls though.

Personally, might as well read it as some of the trolls and new kids are fun to know, and if you end up looking into pretty much anything else about homestuck they're still relevant, but you can always put the comic down whenever you want.
The most defense I can see people giving is that you miss out on Caliborn and Meenah, but Act 6 is basically the last stretch.

The only parts of Act 6 I'd really recommend are everything to do with Caliborn because they're the only parts that actually build up to anything meaningful.
Regarding Act 6 being where the story should have ended, I think the point is that even though Act 6 didn't have a satisfying conclusion, at least it *was* a conclusion, and the way they've chosen to continue the story completely devalues that.
