Why did Titan A.E. flop?

It wasn't very funny.

Poor marketing

>Why did Titan A.E. flop?
that fucking goobie alien thing

holy fuck I lol'd

It was an animated film that didn't adhere to the Disney formula.

Stith>>>>>>Akima

He ended up with another human
I mean yes the species, but it's the damn future

It just wasn't very good. It was a ballsy attempt to do something different from the Disney formula, but the execution was lacking. There's a reason why Shrek was more successful at this the following year : It had a far better script and characters.

>the following year

Huh, I would've sworn Shrek came years later.

I watched Titan AE at the cinema, liked it well enough but I think I was pretty much on my own in the house. Animation was just not workable for a serious adventure movie. I'm not sure a live action sci fi space opera would've worked either.

The 3d backgrounds were jarring as fuck too.

Nope. This came out in 2000. I imagine coming out after Matrix and Phantom Menace didn't help its case either

Teenagers (the target audience) didn't want to be seen as little kids who still watch cartoons.

The reason was Shrek was sold as parodying and mocking cartoons, which is much more acceptable to general audiences.

Gen Xers are gay and wouldn't watch a cartoon unless it was something they saw as a kid. Millennials were actual kids at the time and this wasn't some cutesy family cartoons.

This song was my jam back then. I remember leaving a party to take a walk with a girl, and upon hearing the song in the distance running back to the party. Yet another story of me missing out on some pussy.

I don't know, this had a little Heavy Metal hype but word of mouth was it sucked indeed

Lots of millennials were teenagers at the time.

I guess people did just think it was a ripoff

Not enough Stith.

As I understand, the marketing was all over the place, and there was a lot of studio meddling, though that's not too surprising given Bluth in the 90s was practically a whipped dog getting thrown around onto a bunch of projects that all wound up not being able to match his work during the 80s. Titan didn't feel quite as dumbed down as Troll in Central park or meandering as Rock-a-doodle, it still had major pacing issues and a villain with little presence like in Anastasia. Can only hope the Dragon's Lair movie isn't a mess.

I guess this thread was
in over it's head.
