Is there any shapeshifting character that a writer has tried to make as "realistic" as possible? For example, a shapeshifter who can't just add mass to their body to become huge or one who can only follow certain skeletal systems to function?
Is there any shapeshifting character that a writer has tried to make as "realistic" as possible? For example...
Yes there are plenty of "master of disguise" type characters.
Mystique actually can't add mass although I don't believe this rule has been followed consistently.
Does it count if adding/removing mass is explained?
How is it explained with her? Genuinely curious.
When she adds mass she's taking from another Kamala in the multiverse (or along the timeline) who is shedding mass.
...Sure.
Is the other Kamala constantly shedding mass or is it a back-and-forth system?
Back and forth. The amount of Kamala mass in the multiverse is constant, but whenever one of them shrinks it makes mass up for grabs for another to grow.
A Kamala at 100x her normal size means that 100 other Kamala's are shrunk really small. And when that Kamala returns to normal that mass doesn't necessarily go back to the same 100 people that contributed it in the first place, it might go to one or more other Kamala's instead.
Its a neat idea, but since this bit of lore never actually restricts Kamala from shapechanging as she pleases (she always conveniently has exactly as much as she wants, and never is held back by a multiversal scarcity in the mass economy) it functionally doesn't matter. Its like giving a character the power to summon fire, and later explain "His power is granted by an omnipotent Calendar God, and as such he can only summon fire on days that end with y." Its technically an explanation, but it doesn't really change anything.
Why would there not be enough mass for Kamala to shapeshift? The multiverse is infinite, which means infinite Kamalas and infinite mass
I feel like it was supposed to be setting up for Kamala getting into cosmic-level shenanigans with other Kamalas through the multiverse.
>Shapeshifting powers work through time-space transference
>Has been targeted (and romanced) by Kang the Conqueror, who's well known for his own evil antics through time and space
>At least one Kamala gains Cosmic Awareness and steps in when Kang nearly kills two other Kamalas
>The Infinity Warps event fuses Kamala and Kang into one character, further emphasizing their odd time-space presence
This was all definitely supposed to go somewhere, but for one reason or another simply didn't. At this point, I don't think it will.
Kang knocks up Kamala's mother with himself, and he becomes Kamala in her womb.
>A Kamala at 100x her normal size means that 100 other Kamala's are shrunk really small.
I can't even imagine how this looks. Like, a Kamala is sitting in class then shrinks to the size of an ant?
I would presume there's a system involved so that Kamalas aren't inconvenienced by sudden mass shifts.
i mean this is Zig Forums but the thing and the liquid metal terminator come to mind
I hate those transdimensional energy shuffling explanations for superpowers.
Just let them violate the laws of thermodynamics, that is the whole point of being superpowers. Or find some other sciencey sounding explanation.
They get their powers from another dimension is so disappointing.
the thing that I find most unrealistic about shapeshifters is how they're able to perfectly imitate a person they see, often down to their fingerprint and retinas, even though they've had no chance to see those.
can she shapeshift into animals? or just other humans/mutants. cause id have her shapeshift into a bear and I would fuck her in her bear form
not Zig Forums but the Kandra of the mistborn series are fairly well thought out
they're basically amorphous mounds of flesh who scavenge skeletons from the dead
No it’s not
It runs in the Marvel name.
Sounds stupid
And eventually Kamala will shapeshift into Kang permanently.
Makes sense to me.
So I'm a huge faggot for shape shifters and Ive considered many of the logical faults in the process of shape shifting as a power I like the idea of having it until you put logic into it.
1: You would have to have a good understanding of dimensions and muscle memory to a near perfection to copy another person or animal etc , it would need an advanced creative mind.
2: a good understanding of muscles and bone and overall anatomy to make that body work correctly.
3: You would need no sense of pain and a fast functioning healing power. Transforming the body ripping muscles and joints and stretching bones would be the most intense pain imaginable.
Animorphs.
Kamala's mom.
I couldn't get into Ms Marvel but I will admit her power is cool and handled more interestingly than other similar characters.
It's also crazy fetish fuel
