Two cartoon movies that came out at the same time seemed to force this line of thinking when it has never been true for me at all.
Wreck it Ralph 2 and Lego Movie 2. LM2 also has a point where the antagonist suggests that the girls do all the work while the hapless man gets all the credit. But that's NOT what happened in Lego Movie 1.
Let's look at the Disney princesses. In a majority of these movies I forgot they even HAD a male help them in the end. Maybe for the case of Snow White and Aurora, but that's only a minority of the entire cast. Jasmine's, Ariel's Tianas' and Belle's life arguably got worse with the inclusion of their male protagonists. Even when thinks worked out at the end, it wasn't just because of A MAN. It was because of magic, or combined trickery or companionship. Hell Mulan ended up embracing her femininity at the end which is what ends up saving everyone and Pochahontas as been guided by a feminine voice for the entire movie.
Eric and Phillip are fairly brave but they're neither big or strong.
Aladdin is more witty than strong
The strongest is probably Li Shang or the Beast who's strength didn't do much for saving the day except almost getting theirselves killed.
Rapunzel your male counterpart was FUCKING EUGENE
Why are YOU of all people suggesting this?
Joshua Murphy
>Rapunzel would've literally rotted in a castle if Eugene never showed up
Juan Wright
That’s not the actual princesses, it’s a digital representation of them by some Buzzfeed-style website Rest assured, Rapunzel doesn’t really believe that
Dylan Walker
Less it happening and more simply the notion of it. Find Maui, world is saved. Some prince shows up that Jasmine actually approves of, the future of Agrabah is secured. Almost all of Mulan's heroics are nullified when she's found out to be nullified. In all cases, girl handling herself is taken as a surprise at best.
Kayden Gutierrez
When she's found out to be a girl*

No. I watched TLM2 over 6 times. There isn't even a single sentence implying "girls do all the work and boys get all the credit". If you're talking about that "..you masterbuilt, kicked butt but that helpless male got all the credit?" scene, it was a correct statement, Lucy did all the work until Emmet had the piece cut from his back by Lord Business, person who says this line is also a alien so they include the gender of the person they are talking about because they are foreign to the concept.
You're argument is invalid. Wreck It Ralph 2? Sure, that movie had feminism written all over it. TLM2? That movie was all about not ignoring both girls AND boys. The whole point of the movie was we all get together and try not to push eachother away for the sake of being mature.
>I watched TLM2 over 6 times Willingly, or you have kids who exposed you to it?
Michael Ross
>Lego Movie 2 is boys vs girls through the eyes of an 8 year old This, but even then it never felt like an actual gender war. It was a time travel story that got interrupted by a sibling fight.
Owen Jones
Willingly, i have a Lego collection and The Lego Movie franchise my favourite movie franchise. Once in the theatre, once when the camrip dropped, once when the WEBrip dropped, once with my cousin, once with my friends.
Jose Nelson
repunzel might have her own strengths in both the movie and the show but she would never say something like that. I cant believe you made me find another reason to hate ralph 2
Jose Morales
The worst crime is that they made Rapunzel wear shoes.
Cooper Butler
What are you talking about, she gets honored before all of china
Eli Brown
So your defense to OP is to state the line in TLM2 where the a female character literally says "women do all the work but men get all the credit" and then say it doesn't count...because.
Despite what people say about death of the author, that line is there for a reason, especially since it was highlighted in the trailers. It's pushing the same message as Wreck It Ralph 2, just because you don't like that doesn't mean it's not true. It's not the only message Lego Movie 2 is pushing, but it's there.
Nathaniel Lee
Did you read the user's post? He explained why that was correct and why that person used that kind of language.
Oliver Sanchez
He means after the avalanche scene.
Alexander Cooper
I read it, and I never objected to the rest of the post. I said it wasn't the only message TLM2 was stating, but to just handwave that line because "the character who is saying it is an alien" ignores the fact that someone had to write that line into the script.
As stated previously the line was clearly highlighted and emphasized in the trailers, which the director, the producer, everyone was fine with, or did I miss the part where they expressed concern about it or that the trailers were misrepresenting the message of the film? It has intention behind it. Once again I'm not saying it's the only message TLM2 has, but it is there.
Connor Baker
Not really user, when you're writing an alien you write an alien not a message. It's not the only time she acts weird in the movie.
Trailer? Yeah it was a load of garbage but you can't blame the movie for the retarded marketing.
Jackson Long
And even then, even after saving China TWICE they're prepared to shaft her again, up until the very moment the Emperor himself honors her
Cooper Martin
What do you fail to understand in the phrase ''Do people ASSUME''
Jack Hall
WiR2 was a piece of shit, best not to think about it too much.
Noah Butler
Exactly. Rapunzel is saying the exact opposite of what OP thinks she is. "People assume that's the case, but it's not true". This thread has no reason to exist
Asher Johnson
Also a weird thing about the Disney princesses not having moms. In brave the mom is a big part of the movie
