Reminder that Aang was far more of a Mary-Sue than Korra was.
Reminder that Aang was far more of a Mary-Sue than Korra was
Neither was a mary sue.
You people are just fucking retarded.
Thats not Garry-stu, thats a Deus ex machina. He had to work for every element that he mastered
Korra wasn't a Mary-Sue, she was just an unlikable bitch.
The term is Gary Stu you retard
Neither was, but I agree that Aang was closer to one.
Nobody ever said Korra was a Mary Sue. Are you confusing her with Rey?
both are supposed to be, they where avatars
aang was more likable though
>Aang was closer to one
Can you explain how?
Deus Ex Machina is not inherently bad story telling. The blessings of a higher power is one of the oldest tropes in storytelling
>>Perseus is such a Mary Sue! He never would beaten Medusa without the helmet, shield, sword, and sandals that the Gods gave him for being a good boy
>Youngest Air master ever.
>Better waterbender than Katara after trying it once.
>One filler episode after which he shows no trouble earth bending.
>Another filler episode to fix some bullshit emotional trauma after which he is a perfect fire bender.
Hard work indeed.
Did it also fix a moral dilemma vital to Perseus' character development so he doesn't learn anything?
>Was born as the AIR AVATAR so thats a given
>Had to work over several episodes to master water bending
>Struggled over the entire episode and had to change his philosophy to figure out how to earth bend
> Fire bending, eh. He still had to go through that trama and be juged by the dragons
He worked for nearly every element
i disagree.
>actually Aang is a Mary Sue
>actually ATLA was shit and even moreso that Korra
>actually Asuka and Sooka are the saving grace of an otherwise medicre show
>actually Iroh was a morbidly obese pervert who was never judged nor punished for the Rape of Earth Kingdom, nor his involvement with the Fire Assholes
>actually Sadscarface arc was shit, his attitude was shit, everything was shit and he should have been replaces with the crazy waifu
>actually my waifu is the most complex character ever written in fiction, she is not responsible for her actions for she is a naive minor raised as a child soldier and I say this without any sort of bias except for the hundreds of folders in my PC dedicated exclusively to her cunt
>actually the worldbuilding was shit and the series was never special so Korra doing away with all that gay mystic shit was a simple and effective way to move beyond ching chong shit
>actually the series sucks becouse it does not explain war crimes, politics, burocratic bullshit, ancient cultures with incomprehensible traditions such as fucking goats or your cousin, death, murder, rape, all of that crap which is so prevalent in wars yet is simply omitted for the sake of the younger audiences
>actually Korra is a masterpiece but you guys refuse to move on from this show for children
What's next for this beaten rotten carcass that once resembled a horse?
>He is the sole person on the whole hearth that can control all of the elements
> literally an old divine soul that takes human form so it can mantain the balance of power between people that obtain the element bending power from the source that gives the avatar a existance
Ye, pretty much. Retard.
Actually it did. He was destined to kill his own maternal grandfather which Acrisius went to great lengths to avoid, up to and including throwing his daughter into the sea.
Depending on the version either Perseus accidentally killed him with a discus or accidentally dropped a magic flying sandal given to him by Hermes on his head
On the surface it looked as if he worked hard but in every situation that mattered he was able to bend perfectly.
Then is Avatars Deus Ex Machina good storytelling?
A normal novice waterbender would be better than katara at the beginning
Her shtick is that she was very amateur
>On the surface it looked as if he worked hard
He did work hard, thats why he could bend it so well, as well as the fact that he is the avatar.
>master piece
Here, have your masterpiece in a nutshell
None of you know what Mary Sue or Gary Stu is. Overpowered or plot-armored characters are not Mary Sues. Deus ex machina is not Sue-ism.
A Mary Sue can be all of those things, but the most important element of a Sue is that its purpose is to inject its creator's headcanon into an established story. The whole conceit of a Mary Sue is that the person who made it a.) dislikes characters in the original story and b.) considers their view of the canon as better than the original. A Mary Sue will not only be better than the original, it will insult, attack, and destroy the original. The original character will suffer a tragic death by not heeding the Sue's half-demon bloodline premonition or something similar. Korra was not a Sue, she was a boring cunt lesbian created by two of the most overrated directors in the business. AtlA wasn't Bryke's, it was Aaron Ehasz's. He was the one who wrote the fucking story and the drop in the quality of the storytelling, character, and overall plot between AtlA and LoK is fucking Biblical.
You can appreciate TLA and still see the obvious bulshit.
So you agree it was all given to him free of costs?
That's not a moral dilemma that's a plot point.
Aang wasn't even a novice he was he was having a first go.
Being the avatar is a good reason why he was good at it but it also means he never had to work for it.
Except we saw him work for it, for all of the other elements.
You're not angry a Korra for being boring, you're angry because she wasn't the checklist standard hero that Aang was.
We see Aang struggle to master the elements, especially firebending. Nothing was given to him free of cost. You're using a conceit of the story as an excuse to disqualify the protagonist's arc.
Aang was a checklist standard hero? A pacifist coward who ran from fights and had to be taught that his moral code wasn't the end-all-be-all?
As opposed to Korra, the generic punch-all-the-monsters protagonist, whose stupidity and single-mindedness were so stereotypical they were a plot point?
Korra wasn't only boring, she was specifically designed to be boring.
Actually, like more than half of that is based af.
No, we are angry because it was a self insert Avatar story for tumblr girls.
Aang was kinda like a fucking young Dalai Lama, how can you fucking self insert on him?
Reminder that Op has no idea whatsoever what "Mary Sue" means, just like most of Zig Forums.
Absolutely not. Almost all ancient Greek myths had a superior being come help the hero the last moment, because they believed that's what happened in real life. It had president, it was predictable, it was based on interpretations of real life events.
What the fuck even was a lionturtle? They never showed one before that episode nor the hinted at their existence. Taking someone' bending away? Nigga please.
>inb4 ty lee
Nu uh. She physically crippled people.
she could cripple me...
So if the Lion Turtle was foreshadowed at all, the ending would've been better? Otherwise, how would the ending even happen if Anng wouldn't kill Ozai
Korra wasn't a Mary Sue, she was actually a useless jobber that got beaten up by every single villian and lost almost every single important fight before the season finales.
>Aang
>spends 100 years trapped in ice
>master all forms of bending within a summer
>Korra
>spends her whole life training to be the avatar
>still not all that great at it
O MY ENERGYBENDING
