I genuinely don't understand what this is implying or trying to say. Is it saying that they chose to buy gum to fly over people? Please explain it.

is that a ninjala reference?

A little dab ought to do this thread

Am I the only one who actually understands Heathcliff's jokes?

Enlighten me

Nah, they're not that hard to understand. There's only a few that I didn't know what was going on until someone here explained it

It's Meta humor. Cliff is not a dog therefor not a great way to meet people. Not meating people is social distancing. Cliff knew about it way before it all started. It's Nostradamus humor

Are you an alien? I'm not sure how most of them are jokes.

This one is clearly one of those cartoon gags where bubblegum makes you fly. The common gag is reused here in regards to current day issues, because flight would be a good way to distance yourself from people on the ground.

The joke here is that graffiti artists often paint inappropriate words, but Heathcliff is using the word "poop" instead of something like "shit", which makes it more appropriate for kids. That, and kids typically find poop hilarious.

I'll admit I'm not sure how to explain this one, but it makes sense to me in a way I can't really describe. I might have to think about it more.

To understand the jokes you really need to learn the lore. Most jokee are continuations on older strips

I understand most of them, but they're presented in such an unusual, nearly abstract manner that sometimes I have to analyze what I'm looking at for a while before I get it. It's like seeing the punch line without the setup. You have to forensically reconstruct the rest of the joke to get it.

The ones based on the strip's internal mythology (garbage ape, ham helmet) can be baffling to new readers, but some of them are just weird for their own sake.

That's what confuses you? I'm more confused by the practicality, and long term prospects of store that sells primarily gum. What a wondrous economic landscape that must be.

Him playing a loud, obnoxious intermount that disturbs others relaxes him.

Most of these are just out right unfunny but make sense if you understand HC lore.

I'd imagine they sell other gum-related products.

>if you understand HC lore.
Heathcliff is so interesting about this.

And the sequel.

I hope not. It's basic absurdism.

I am tempted to put this on my bicycle helmet.

What are you talking about? The joke is Heathcliff chased some dogs up a tree, which is the opposite of what usually happens. The man says the common phrase of how dogs are a good way people, but it's not in that way.

There's a better choice.

Sometimes peopel play music to relax themselves. It would make perfect sense to you to see someone playing the piano because it relaxes them. The joke here is that Heathcliff plays a noisy instrument.

thumb looks like nooses

Post the Kafkaesque version

The official lore doesn't explain too much.
