Is there any point in trying to make a webcomic if people will only follow you if you're popular?

just make whatever art or comic that you wanna make. fulfill your artistic desires and dreams, user.

if you wanna make art to become popular, then...you shouldn't be an artist.

>people will only follow you if you're popular
people will follow you if they like the art you're makin'. create whatever you want, and your audience will eventually come.

>if you wanna make art to become popular, then...you shouldn't be an artist.
I should clarify: don't be greedy and only make art for the sake of becoming popular

That's why smart webcomic artists shill their comic on forums and sites while posing as a fan.

>when you get famous, you care less about people doing the same shit that aren't
Mega brain take, definitely justifies all the illustration.

Yes, because it's fun.

Expression. I have made stuff purely for myself.

I have a google doc full of worldbuilding shit and a story being written out. Problem is I can't draw for shit and am broke so I can't hire an artist.

This is now a Plush Maria thread

Isn't this dude in hiding right now because he's about to get called out.

The pleasure of the creative process

now that i think about it, has there been any webcomic made by a literal who that becomes actually popular?

More like "is there any point in trying to maake a webcomic is its not porn?"

Art exists for it's own sake, products exist to make money.

In the west? No. You'd never get the level of multi-media clout that you can get as a webcomic/webnovel creator in Japan.

Use stick figures to storyboard and try to convince some poor sod that illustrating your shit gratis will be good practice and/or give them an opportunity to put their name out there.

Or write a web novel and get a fan that can draw to illustrate various scenes.

The fuck is this bullshit.
Small artists aren't entitled to my time. I'm fucking busy.

I'll never get over people posting on Zig Forums as if they're some maverick billionaire leaving a board meeting that ran 5 seconds over.

this, what is the point for small artists to "iinteract" with big artist ? do they just expect someone who took the time to learn their craft and refined their art to just lay it off for a newbie with a bamboo tablet ? if you want to be big, practice and follow trend.

Isn't that the basis of apprenticeships and the guild system?

All the big artists got mentored by a big artist when they were a small artists
The death of creative mentorships is what leads to things like the modern anime industry

>Making art for the sole purpose of becoming popular or making money
You are not a artist, you are a prostitute.

apprenticeship and mentorship existed in a time where information was guarded jealously by a particular group so you had to see them to learn the craft, the internet blew this, you can get any tutorial in a matters of click, you can hav any book if you're lucky/crafty enough to search it. So you're left with only your motivation and your will to get that bread, small artists who want special interaction with a big one are retarded, because the time that they put asking meaningless question like " how do i git gud" the less they practice

You can go a long way on just tutorials but you are more suseptible to bad advice leading to bad habits, and its a constant uphill battle to get specific, insightful feedback for each piece from someone who knows what they're talking about

then you can shell out some money on an art school or a specialised teacher, but don't bother big artists with your shitty scribbles also theres discord server full of big artists that can help you

Almost all of the popular webcomics were created by literal whos when they started. Like, nobody knew who Randall Munroe was when he started. It's much more rare for someone who's already well-known to start another webcomic and have it still be as popular as the first one.

Who the hell even has money in this economy?

burgers flippers probably

Landlords

Look for threads about promoting small time webcomics and post yours there. Also when promoting, dont be a dick or a shill.
