Today I will be storytiming the 2004 miniseries Arkham Asylum: Living Hell by Dan Slott with art by Ryan Sook. In it, a corrupt executive uses the insanity defense to get off of the charges against him and as a result is sent to Arkham Asylum. Also there's some stuff about demons. But we'll get to that later. So, please enjoy Arkham Asylum: Living Hell.
Arkham Asylum: Living Hell Storytime
One of my favorite Batman stories
I love any stories that put a highlight on lesser known character.
Batman isn't even in it that much. As much as I like him, it's nice to have stories where he isn't in the limelight.
As much as I like this comic, I always thought Joker was drawn a little weird here. I think it's his forehead.
unibrow doesn't help
Maybe this came out close to Long Halloween and longface joker was what was popular at the time.
Long Halloween was 1996 and this was 2004. I think this might've just been a weird decision by the artist. This comic is supposed to take place before No Man's Land though so maybe Sook was trying to emulate the design from Long Halloween? I dunno.
Good show. White has a real Frank Grimes kind of feel in this story, a mostly regular guy who gets sucked into the world of super villains. It really shows how little the people of the world actually know about all the cape business that goes on when they aren't personally caught up in it.
I remember really liking this book and the villains it introduced and lol just kill them all off was a bit of a downer. If only Slott had stayed writing stuff like this.
>White has a real Frank Grimes kind of feel in this story, a mostly regular guy who gets sucked into the world of super villains
Don't agree, it basically points him out as a supervillain equivalent in real life terms. He's just as much of a sociopath as anyone else in Arkham - he isn't a "regular guy" he's just playing by regular guys rules, initially.
It's too bad other writers haven't done much else with White.
At least Jane, White and Humpty survived
Junkyard Dog is my G, fun stories you could do with that character.
I think Junkyard and Doodlebug showed up in that one CGI Batman cartoon. So did Humpty Dumpy and Magpie. There were a weird amount of Living Hell characters in that show.
What happened to Slott?
Last I checked, he's mostly doing Marvel stuff.
