Season 1 only had one good episode, the second season only had like 2 or 3 good episodes. Consistent mediocrity is a step up.

Yes. It was shit too. You don't know who the main antagonist are or what their goal is or why they are fighting a war against the world.

I understand the show's main hook is fight scenes and waifus. I've only seen the first season, it wasn't for me but I can see why people would like it. How did they manage to fuck up the show?

Good again as in season 1-2, monty quality choreography and constant action/reaction? Not even close. But some more recent fights were actually fun to watch.

They had a filler season right after a climatic batter, bad writing, and they changed the art style.

The creator and one responsible for animating the fight scenes died after season 2. The writing and non-fighting animation was always shit, and nobody else on the team could do action scenes like him. All the show had left was a semi-interesting world and waifus, both of which got fucked by aforementioned shit writing.

They have been winging it and never wrote a point beginning to point end.

And they thought they should invest in this and not work on their popular series

What killed it for me was the bloated cast. When the fights went to shit they kept adding more and more of dumb shit characters in a show with 5 minute episodes. You won't believe how fucking large the cast has got. It's gotten to the point where nearly all of the running time is new characters introduction, exposition from said characters and the main cast reacting to this. There's no meaningful interaction between the main girls. I think it was in vol. 6 where Ruby and Weiss didn't even speak once or more than once.

Like, how can they fail to see how that's more important than a midget clown military caricature failing to be funny?

Can't get over the downgrade on Ruby's and Jaune's hair. What were they thinking?
