In all honesty it's just cringey writing. I love the show, but it's hard to look past the childish amateur level of "this is bad because I said so" stuff. I'm reminded of when the writers of the Jessica Jones show did that for the final season to by literally putting a character in there for the sole purpose of having the power to "sense evil" to make force the audience to agree with the opinion of Trish becoming pure evil.
