Why are modern cartoons like this? Do they suddenly hate 4 fingers now?

Thing that never happened for $200

I just realized she has five fingers on each hand

Some styles look weird with it, though, so maybe yours does. Learn to take criticism.

This got me to ask him why he asked for 5 fingers and he said that humans have 5 fingers. What’s stylization?

It's because we can afford to animate an additional finger now.

4 fingered hands have largely fallen out of favor as a design element due to the heavy anime influence in many cartoonists and illustrators’ styles.
And Japanese cartoon characters never have 4 fingers due to looking too much like yubitsume; the traditional Yakuza practice of chopping off the pinky finger as punishment.

no thanks you gigantic homo tool

You have no excuses to draw 4 fingers only these days.

the reason used to be "4 is bad luck" but now theres a yakuza angle too?
Bullshit, the first Astro Boy had 4 on each hand in the animation but 5 anywhere else. 5 fingers could have been standard for a long time had nobody figured out 4 fingers was easier to animate.

Cartoons rarely use four fingers anymore. Quit using MUH STYLE as a crutch and draw five fingers you fucking faggot.

I can draw five fingers fine. I just like to draw four better

Why stop there? Why not "stylize" your characters to have one eyeball and no legs, too.

It says here that you prefer four fingers to five. Care to explain yourself?

People used to draw four fingers because animation was in its infancy and it saved time while still conveying the proper amount of information for a hand shape. Three fingers is too few, so four was the perfect sweet spot for how many digits you could remove before it looks "weird". When a cartoon actually got a budget, they would use five fingers, but still keep four fingers for comic relief characters because people got used to the image of a goofy four-fingered cartoon character.

The 90's was a resurgence of artists drawing inspiration from animation classics, so they all drew four fingers because that's what they were learning from. They all figured funny cartoon characters had four fingers, like Fred Flintstone and Mickey Mouse. Modern-day cartoons are not taking inspiration from Preston Blair, Tex Avery, Chuck Jones, etc. So they draw five fingers.

Use this as an excuse to fist your boss, he's literally asking for it.

Why not? Modern cartoonists who get their inspiration from calarts should kill themselves in minecraft.

All you typed was words, not a coherent sentence.

>The pressure groups then demanded money from studios, or else they would not allow the game would not be sold in Japan

Blame Japan

I know some artists who would go to that degree

Then he's probably looking for something more grounded in reality.

Is your boss an artist? Post some of your art so we can judge it. Drawing humans with fewer than 5 fingers per hand is as much of a stylistic choice as drawing humans with fewer than 32 teeth. It could just be that your missing fingers are conspicuous.

Contract won't allow me, but makes most sense

>a piece of paper is going to force you from sharing your art with the world
Lmao

>Contract won't allow me
I'm not asking you to post content under an NDA, just something of your own art. No contract is gonna stop you from sharing art you make in your own time, or stuff from before it.
