Taking the 8 months between Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker, could Dave and team make something good out of the sequel era?

It could start with the Resistance leaving Crait and end with Palpatine's message as the final scene. The downside is it could only last three seasons top if it's just following the movie characters.

Making the plot the Resistance trying to sway planets to not join to the First Order is pretty similar to Clone Wars, do that type of storytelling isn't too far off from what Dave is used to. But I wonder if he could fill it with interesting stories with the characters we have and where we know they end up.

Wonder if it could be so good, people leave the series with Rose as a favorite character.

You could have a few episodes about Rey training with Leia.

And Poe was gone for the most part during this timespan. That's not just an easy "the facts were slightly wrong" retcon like the Ashoka book opening. Both the comics and novels have him pretty well tracked pos-TLJ.

That would leave the only movie characters really open to original stories free of constant of canon as Finn, Rose, and Kylo.

If Dave could make Finn and Rose's missions interesting, as well as filling in gaps with Rey training episodes similar to the Yoda episodes of Clone Wars and having some Kylo centric episodes like he did with Maul, you could have something interesting.

No

There's a slim possibility, but he's better off claiming the Sequel Trilogy is a Dark Future timeline and doing his own thing with the ST characters. The downside though is he might prioritize his own characters over all the PT/OT/ST characters.

For me, it's Bespin Platforms

Man, starting TLJ immediately after TFA without a timejump neutered the hell out of any narrative potential the sequel trilogy had.
The comics have literally a day to squeeze between them, like the Phasma comic, and then before RoS.

The prequels gave a meaty amount of time to fill out between each film, as did the originals.

They retconed TFA and TLJ to having a month between them just for the EU.

A “real time” trilogy would’ve been cool if actually planned. Now the biggest TV project possible could only be three or four seasons at most. Even Resistance struggled to squeeze two seasons of nothing by starting before TFA and running a month after TLJ.

I was about to propose making Rose and Paige, along with some OCs, and the Colbat Squadron the main characters. If anyone can make Rose likable, it’s Dave. The series could start pre-TFA by a year with the black op stuff.

However that goes out the window because

A) Rose was just a mechanic with no implied battle experience (not banking too much on this one, it wouldn’t be much of a retcon to have her active before TLJ but not a proper fighter).

B) Having a character die off screen like Paige would break Dave’s unsaid rule about character development from the movies happening off screen. He’d have to recreate large chunks of TLJ line for line.

The next solution is to have a cast of OCs that begin to intertwine with Rey, Finn, Poe, and Rose as the timeline catches up like he did with Rebels. It’s probably the best solution, but it means the whole idea of “improving the sequels” can get lost easier.

So basically he has to make it a black ops Resistance show that’s practically a Rebels clone.

He did it with Clone Wars, I have faith he could.

>They retconed TFA and TLJ to having a month between them just for the EU.

So Finn was in a coma for a month and Rey was standing there holding the lightsaber for a month? Or does her arrival take place during Last Jedi's opening?

The originals have strong 3 years between ANH and ESB and a mere two months between RotJ and ESB, so it does both

I will say I hate how Disney used up the three year gap with comics only a couple years into the new canon

The retcon is that it took her more time to get to Luke and she didn’t fly straight there

It’s clunky

>Or does her arrival take place during Last Jedi's opening?

Yes. Clearly not what the movies intended but yes.

No. The prequel trilogy was a fundamentally solid story of a paragons fall told badly. The sequel trilogy is a jumbled mess of contrasting themes. There can be good stories told in that time, but they can't make the movies better.

Even the Disney official shareholders timeline shows how they fucked up the timespan

Clone Wars didn’t make the prequels not suck. Anakin being realistic and cool in Clone Wars didn’t make him not a whiny asshole in the actual movies. And no, the fall from grace also sucked in the movies. Clone Wars added context that made the story better, but not the actual movies.

I think telling good stories with the flawed sequel characters is possible with a good writer. Like the prequels, it will not nor can it ever make the actual, final cut of the movies good.

This isn't Zig Forums

>Taking the 8 months between Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker, could Dave and team make something good out of the sequel era?
Doubt it, people were clamoring to see more of Anakin's fall to the darkside, more of those cool and creative droids in battle, a way to humanize the Clones that made up the majority of the fighting and the moral question of using them at all. There was a lot of meat in the Clone Wars because The Phantom Menace for all its faults set up a galaxy wide antagonist who looked distinct, had a lot of funding and had the ability to create fantastic set pieces with new droids Vs clones. That and, most importantly, it promised watchers oodles and oodles of Jedi fighting at their very best. Masters would get a chance to shine, fan favorites would get entire arcs to themselves, Clone Wars offered a lot that could be explored because George knows how to set up a universe.

What the fuck do the sequels have? Seeing Rey become more OP over the course of the series and knowing nothing bad ever comes of anything she does? Seeing the resistance full of random ass ships with no cohesion that don't mean a thing until the final battle? There's no major factions, there's no cool characters people are dying to see used more of, there's not even more jedi. There's Rey, there's Kylo, and thats your lot for lightsabers.

Could they make something good? Maybe. Could they make something good with the characters from the sequels? No.

The only reason clone wars was so good was because the prequel create an interesting world. There is no world building in the sequels and it's complete garbage

It's clearly talking about the live action movies, and namely how you think "sjws and females killed star wars"

You know it's actual kinda strange how the only few main casts that have background stuff about them is Kylo and Poe, who are also some of the most liked folks from the New films. Kylo had a decent amount of comics and Poe had a above average comic series and a few books with one or two episodes on Resistance. What do the others have other than a few children's books and animated shorts which everyone also got. Where's Rey's or Finns comics?
This is also true

>implying Dave Filoni has ever done something good for Star Wars

>The best pop culture of the decade
How fucking sad.

It's Star Wars PLUS the best pop culture of the decade.

Low-Key throwing shade by acknowledging it didn't have half the impact of Fast and Furious, let alone touching MCU's pop culture decimation.

Its sad how Disney dropped the ball on Star Wars

Anything Filoni is involved in from here on out should have a clause in the contract forbidding Ashoka from appearing in any capacity whatsoever, Dave has clearly demonstrated a writer's biased towards her and if left unchecked, she'll turn into another Lisa Simpson.

I was literally saying it would be great to see Rose redeemed within a Dave Filoni cartoon

Try again

>They retconed TFA and TLJ to having a month between them just for the EU.

This just opens more questions?

>How the fuck does Poe only meet Rey at the end of TLJ then?
>Did Rey spend a month flying around the galaxy looking for planet Ireland?
>if so, how does she know that FO taking over the galaxy is a matter of hours?

Probably more, but I'm going to sleep.

Him implying she was still alive and projecting to Rey from across the galaxy during RoS just to justify his waifu not ever dying was a step too far

Her being alive for Rebels, that was cool

Her surviving Darth, felt like creators bias but lead to some okay things in the series

Not even letting her be dead for one of the few cool and respectful moments from the sequels is really stupid and Mary Sueish

Attached: AhsokaTano-StarWarsOralHistory-1.jpg (1184x666, 81.19K)

He is already shoving her into Mando.

Like I honestly think live-action Ashoka is HYPE, but Mado was supposed to be a series disconnected from the movies or other projects. At most Boba would've been enough

Sadder is how and why they chose to drop it. The archetype for a powerful female jedi character with agency and a character arc has existed for decades, and her name is Mara Jade. Kathleen Kennedy, who despite the memes had years of experience in film and wasn't just a corporate know-nothing, deliberately chose to make the main character of the new series a bland piece of garbage, smugly pass her off as a feminist masterpiece, and call anybody who disagreed a sexist.

A team of complete amateurs with a fraction of Disney's budget and resources could have made an adaptation of the Thrawn Trilogy, and done gangbusters.

People who like Mara Jade just want to fap to her and her arc is just full of fan-theory level tripe, prove me wrong

JUSTICE FOR KELLY

SAVE TICO! SAVE THE DREAM!

No. Characters are shit to begin with. The era is garbage, it has no soul and no creativity behind it. All designs are shit. I doubt there is anything that can be done about it.

I'm a die-hard fan of the Thrawn Trilogy, I only fap to Leia, and if Zhan's "fan-theory level tripe" still managed to be orders of magnitude better than what we got.

No, why?

This is probably the most constructive discussion of the sequel trilogy I've ever seen

Why should they waste more time on this dead end abomination?

Other than a book or comic, aka something with out Ms. Tran, never going to happen

Even Jar Jar had fans in the form of young kids, opening him up to be "saved" in Clone Wars, and even then the whole joke was everyone hated him.

Nobody cares about Rose. At best, people just wanted Kelly to stop getting hate because of a shitty character.

Her arc began in TLJ, so you can't give her a story worth a damn before that. And the conflict she was involved with was decisively ended a mere 8 months later.

Disney will probably wait a decade before going even a second past the end of Rise of Skywalker and even then, it can be assumed Rose is either a normal mechanic or less likely part of the New Republic army.

You cannot save Rose. At best you can hope Tran gets a good role in a great movie.

>Why should they waste more time on this dead end abomination?

You mean the prequels? That series fucked up the origin of cinema's most famous villain. Dave made something good out of it.
