One of the most overhated movies of all time. It's actually superior to Nemo in quite a few areas ( storyline, characters, humor, pacing and soundtrack )

I honestly don't get what is so bad about it besides soccer moms from murica hating some serious themes on kids movies even though this shit is fucking nothing to most of Europe and Japan
I really like how this movie takes its proper time to introduce the setting and characters before the main conflict starts. Oscar takes credit of killing the shark at the 31 minute mark, whereas in Finding Nemo, Nemo is captured by the dentist diver less than 15 minutes into the film. Too fast imo, especially compared to previous Pixar films, which waited more than 20 mins before shit starts going down.
All of the reviews from this film can be summed up like this : "pop culture references are bad, go rewatch Nemo instead". Even the Rotten Tomatoes consensus doesn't say if it's good or bad
I haven't seen a more based thread in a long time
>derivative and full of pop culture in-jokes
>derivative
How in the fuck is Shartale derivative? Is unironically one if not the least formulaic american big studio animated movies ever.
Indeed, this film tackled some unusual themes for an CG animation that came out before Incredibles. Most CG kids films from that era were simplistic and linear adventures showing a duo or trio trying to reach a certain location ( Dinosaur ), rescue someone ( Toy Story 2, Shrek, Nemo ) or escort someone to his parents ( Monsters Inc, Ice Age ) This film actually tried to go for a different and more grounded approach, yet it got shit for doing so
Sharktale is fine.
El Espantatiburones, however, is absolutely kino.
I imagine it's because of the Nemo similarities or the use of mafia tropes. Either way, calling it derivative seems like a stretch
Indeed. Oscar has a far more likeable and dorky voice in the dub. Sorry Smith
The thing i love about this film is how comfy it is. There is no frantic movements, screaming or action scenes. It's just a dialogue heavy rom com focused on characters casually talking. Very unusual for an CG comedy to be like this, since most of them go for the loud and frantic route instead ( Madagascar, Ice Age, Despicable Me, Hotel Transylvania, Rio, Lego films, Cloudy films, etc )
I wonder how Dreamworks and Katzenberg feel about this film nowadays. They turned their back on it completely since 2004. No sequels, tv shows, holiday specials or spin offs. Sort of like Antz...
Why do people complain this has jokey product placement, yet give Zootopia or Shrek 2 a pass ?
Shrek 2 was great, Zootopia is a movie that the more time passes the more people realize it was always mediocre
I've heard people say that Toy Story had better CG than Shark Tale, which is bullshit. Have you watched TS lately ? The CG aged terribly
Zootopia is definitely a film that will feel more dated as time goes on. Frozen and Tangled are far more timeless
>one if not the least formulaic american big studio animated movies ever.
But it's a totally by-the-numbers plot. Short-sighted hero finds fame through a lie, realizes fame doesn't make him happy, learns to be himself, roll credits.
It's an OK movie, you don't have to pretend it's some amazingly original thing.
The sad thing about Shark Tale is that was supposed to be a more darker and noirish film early on. After Rob Letterman became co director halfway through development, he rewrote the script and turned into a more comedic film. The original script was written by the Ice Age 1 writer, who still got credited anyway
>character growth makes it formulaic
feels like this thread is mostly just a weird group of shitposters mixed with actual diehard fans who have nothing to actually discuss about this movie, so they just try to introduce more people to it. I'm pretty sure I've seen these posts yesterday for yet another Shark Tale vs Nemo thread.
>social class and (possibly racism) allegory
>homosexuality allegory
>crossdressing allegory
>conservative family relationships allegory
How is any of that "by the numbers"?
Don't forget that Lenny's side of the plot takes a good chunk of the film, and that's definitely an original plot ( homosexual son of mafia boss runs away after his dad doesn't accept him / witnesses his brother's death, and decides to fake his death to start new life as a crossdressing guy )
I felt bad for Oscar here. Even if he got himself in that situation, getting taken to a wasteland to be killed by a bunch of hitmen for owing money is pretty harsh. You can see he gives up on life right there
This was far more obnoxious with it? and the fish designs were off putting?
I don’t feel bad for greedy retarded niggers.
It’s because everyone looks absolutely ugly.
What’s with the Zig Forumsntrarians here?
