I find many flaws in the fact that the X-Men are actively recruiting genocidal super-villains who have tried to murder them tons of times. That's not playing hardball, it's not even operation paperclip, it's just suicidal retardation. Apocalypse, Mystique, Sinister, Gorgon, Selene, and co. WILL inevitably fuck things up for the X-Men.

They have had genocidal mutants not only within their ranks as leaders, but also as teachers, poisoning the minds of the younger mutants with propaganda. You can’t complain about them recruiting Villains when Magneto has been a mainstay on the team for over a decade

How Marvel treats mutants has changed so much over the past few decades depending on which of the dozens on writers you read, you can find evidence to support pretty much however you want to feel about them and their actions.
